Sulkovec combines a clearly recognizable local history with documented opportunities for hiking and cycling. At its center is the Church of St. Gall, complemented by historic buildings and traces of the oldest parts of the municipality. At the same time, a green-marked hiking route and a designated cycling path cross the area. This gives you different starting points for a trip in which cultural discoveries and physical activity go hand in hand.

Church of St. Gall and Baroque Architectural History

The Church of St. Gall stands in the center of Sulkovec on a slight hill. The parish church is a Baroque building that Baron Jan Theodor von Imbsen had built in 1735–1736 on the foundations of a chapel dating from 1645. The building's history thus already points to several periods: the present church dates back to the 18th century, while its origins reach back to the middle of the 17th century.

Architecturally, the church has a longitudinal single-nave hall with a three-sided chancel and an adjoining square sacristy. This precise spatial arrangement also makes the building interesting for visitors who, when visiting the locality, are not only looking for a distinctive exterior but also want to understand the form and development of a religious building.

House Numbers, Parish House and Cultural Monument

The parish house of Sulkovec is also part of the locality's history. It was built in 1766 by Maria Antonia von Imbsen, the daughter of Jan Theodor von Imbsen. Another perspective on the development of the locality is provided by the house numbers: Until 1900, Sulkovec had 42 house numbers, which formed the oldest part of the municipality. House No. 11 burned down in 1953, and Houses Nos. 32 and 38 were demolished; all the remaining houses continue to serve their purpose to this day.

The estate in Sulkovec, House No. 34, is also part of the documented cultural heritage of the locality and is designated as an immovable cultural monument. Together with the church, the parish house and the recorded history of the house numbers, it creates a local character whose distinctiveness lies above all in its specifically identifiable historical traces.

Hiking and Cycling Around Sulkovec

For an active day out, the green-marked Dalešín–Bystré hiking route is relevant: it crosses the cadastral territory of Sulkovec. In addition, Cycling Route No. 104 runs through Sulkovec. The two details refer to different types of routes and help you consider a hiking or cycling tour separately from the locality's cultural sites.

Another connection with nature is Louka pod Sulkovcem, which is designated as a registered nature conservation site. This documented status complements the hiking route and cycling path with a protected landscape reference, without itself naming a specific route or a particular visitor amenity. When researching Sulkovec, you can therefore distinguish between architectural history, local traditions, the hiking connection, cycling path and designated nature conservation site.
