Rudolec – Fortress, Chapels and Hiking Trails
Accommodation in Rudolec
Rudolec Among Its Fortress, Chapels and Landscape
Rudolec combines historical traces with ponds, wetland habitats and marked hiking trails. Particularly interesting is the contrast between Rudolec Castle with its medieval fortress, the Chapel of Saint Anne in Rudolec, the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk above Rudolec and the viewpoints across the landscape. For families wishing to combine culture and nature in a single stay, the town offers several clearly distinct points of interest: you can discover historical details, hike along ridges or explore the pond-dotted surroundings.
The Medieval Fortress in Rudolec Castle
The medieval fortress in the north wing of Rudolec Castle, with its massive walls and four vaulted rooms, has been completely preserved. At the same time, the castle is currently privately owned and falling into disrepair. The medieval fortress continues to serve as the seat of the estate administration and as the owner's main residence. Private ownership, continued use and the documented deterioration are therefore just as much a part of the building's present-day character as its preserved historic substance.
Chapels with Their Own History
The Chapel of Saint Anne in Rudolec was completed in the summer of 1998 and consecrated at a pilgrimage Mass on July 26, 1998. Only one element of its original furnishings has survived: a painting of Saint Anne. A year after the consecration, a new bell was also installed in the chapel tower. Another historical attraction is located above Rudolec. The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk dates from the late 18th century, stands along the road toward Jihlava and is situated at an elevation of 674 m above sea level.
Ponds and Special Habitats
The landscape around Rudolec also offers specific destinations to consider when choosing where to stay. Olšinský Pond in Rudolec, together with other ponds in the vicinity of Bohdalov, belongs to Bohdalovsko Nature Park. The Rybníky u Rudolce area includes ponds with rare vegetation of periodically drying ponds, as well as adjacent wetland and peatland habitats. Notable plant species occur there, especially the slender mudwort (Coleanthus subtilis), along with amphibians in particular. Those seeking water landscapes and characteristic habitats in addition to architectural heritage will find a distinctly different focus here than in the castle area.
Hiking at Blažkov and Vyhlídka
A blue-marked hiking trail passes through Rudolec and runs along the Blažkov ridge. From Blažkov, there are views of the Moravian and Bohemian sides of the Žďárské vrchy. Another blue-marked hiking trail passes by Vyhlídka nad Rudolcem and follows the ridge of the Arnolecké hory. Vyhlídka nad Rudolcem offers views of Rudolec Castle, Bohdalov and the Žďárské vrchy. This makes it possible to experience historical features and far-reaching landscape views as distinct aspects of a stay in Rudolec.
