Rozsochy between Railways, Baroque and Living Traditions

Rozsochy brings together railway history, sacred art, traditional festivals and routes for active days within a compact area. This creates an unusually varied mix for planning your trip: you can view a cultural monument at the railway station, discover the Church of St Bartholomew with its stone evidence from different eras, and at the same time focus on traditional events or a cycling and hiking tour.

A Railway Station with a Remarkable History

A notable landmark is the ancillary building of Rozsochy railway station. It is a cultural monument dating from 1903–1904 and has been preserved in an exceptionally authentic form. Its surviving features include stained-glass doors, decorative boarded gables, shaped beam ends and stone corbels. These details make the building interesting even for visitors who want to explore historic architecture not only through major monuments, but also through preserved individual features.

Rozsochy railway station is located on railway line 256 between Žďár nad Sázavou, Nové Město na Moravě and Tišnov. The station also provides step-free access to all platforms.

Church, Statues and Baroque Traces

The Church of St Bartholomew reaches far back into the history of Rozsochy. The oldest known written reference to the church dates from 1285. From 1763 onwards, it was extensively remodelled in the Baroque style, while retaining an older structural core. Its architecture is late Baroque and typical of ecclesiastical buildings.

The features around the church also bear clearly legible dates. The sandstone statue of Saint John of Nepomuk beside the church bears the year 1766 on its pedestal, while the sandstone statue of the Archangel Michael bears the year 1767. The sandstone cross statue beside the church bears the year 1772 on its pedestal. Together with the church’s older structural core, these features provide an illustrative insight into the religious building and commemorative culture of the village.

Festivals with Strong Regional Traditions

Rozsochy is also shaped by the Ostatková zábava festival with the burial of Masopust. It takes place every year on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. The ritual is based on defined ceremonial roles, including a master of ceremonies, bell ringers, a military guard, funeral assistants, a widow and a priest. At the end of 2025, the Ostatková zábava festival with the burial of Masopust was added to the list of intangible elements of the traditional folk culture of the Vysočina Region.

Another highlight is the Bartolomějská pouť pilgrimage festival. It includes a morning mass at the Church of St Bartholomew, a craft market, fairground attractions, refreshments and fairground sales. Participation in the craft market requires either producing handicrafts oneself or giving a practical demonstration of their production. This distinguishes the market from a purely commercial offering: the craft skill itself is part of the event’s documented character.

Rozsochy also hosts an autumn pilgrimage with a church consecration festival on a Sunday around the feast day of Saint Gall, 16 October.

Cycling and Hiking with a Railway Option

The Santini Cycling Route passes through Rozsochy. The Bystřice–Vojetín–Rozsochy route is relevant for hikers: from Rozsochy, it is possible to return to Bystřice by train. This connection describes a specific way to combine a hike with a train segment without planning the return journey solely as part of the same hiking route.

When looking for accommodation in Rozsochy, you can therefore first determine your preferred travel focus: historic architecture and church art, traditional festivals, or an active route involving cycling, hiking and rail travel. The characteristics of the village offer different starting points, without requiring you to limit yourself to just one type of stay.
