Radňovice between landscape and cross-country skiing

Radňovice lies on the border of the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area. Rising above the village is Harusův kopec, a 741 m high hill that shapes the local landscape. In winter, Harusův kopec is a popular location for cross-country ski trails. Radňovice therefore combines a clearly recognizable landscape with a seasonal winter sports experience, without limiting the village to just one time of year for travel. Harusův kopec is thus part of the village’s winter profile, while the Stations of the Cross provide a cultural point of reference accessible year-round.

Cross-country skiing with different focuses

Those who want to plan their winter stay around a specific route can choose the Radňovický okruh, a 9 km, more sporting cross-country ski circuit. The route runs through Radňovice and Jiříkovice. Its length and explicitly more sporting orientation give the cross-country skiing on offer a different profile from the general winter sports landscape at Harusův kopec. When choosing accommodation, you can therefore take the desired character of your stay into account: the focus may be on the landscape around the hill or on a longer circuit described as more demanding.

The Stations of the Cross and local history

Another side of Radňovice is represented by the Křížová cesta. The Stations of the Cross are accessible year-round and have fourteen stations. They follow the route along which local carriers once brought tourists’ luggage to a hut. This historical use is part of the history of the route; it does not describe any present-day luggage transport or current function of the route.

The local culture of remembrance also includes the Lurdská jeskyně, which was created from local stone in 2014. In the center of Radňovice, the monument to the victims of the First World War commemorates local citizens who fell between 1914 and 1918. The monument to František Mikeš is dedicated to František Mikeš, a farmer and cooperative employee who was executed on June 9, 1942, because of his resistance activities. The two monuments emphasize different aspects of remembrance: one refers to several local fallen soldiers from the years 1914 to 1918, while the other concerns the resistance and fate of a single person in 1942.

The village also has a specific connection to film history: Some scenes from the 1961 film Malý Bobeš were filmed in Radňovice. For visitors looking for local stories in addition to nature and activities, this creates a multifaceted picture of the village—from a setting made of local stone to sites of remembrance and a cinematic trace from 1961. The Lurdská jeskyně adds a more recent testimony: Its creation from local stone in 2014 distinguishes it in terms of both time and material from the historical monuments.
