Polnička – Nature, Festivals and Family Experiences
Accommodation in Polnička
Polnička between protected landscapes and village life
Polnička is a destination for anyone who wants to combine nature experiences, village culture and unusual family attractions. The municipality includes the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area and the Pod Kamenným vrchem Nature Reserve. This gives the locality a distinct landscape character, complemented by events and sights in the village.
Bogs, wet meadows and a pond
The Pod Kamenným vrchem Nature Reserve comprises an extensive complex of meadows. Its mosaic consists of bog communities, wet meadows and meadowsweet stands. This area then transitions into wetlands with sedge stands and secondary reed beds around a pond. For your trip planning, this is a specific landscape feature: here you will find not just a general hilly landscape, but a succession of different wetland habitats.
The Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area provides the larger protected framework within the municipality. Those who value nature and varied landscapes when choosing a holiday destination can therefore regard Polnička as a base for a trip with a clear focus on protected areas, without reducing the locality to a single nature theme.
Children's railway and outdoor leisure park
The Salón Expres Vagón Polnička is a special destination for an eventful outing. The outdoor leisure park includes a children's railway, motor cars, a cableway and all-terrain quad bikes. The children's railway runs on a 300-metre-long narrow-gauge railway.
The history of the Salón Expres Vagón Polnička is also unusual. Operations began in 1993, after a decommissioned railway carriage had been converted into a restaurant. The site thus combines a gastronomic concept with railway history and outdoor leisure activities.
Annual events with their own character
In addition to its permanent attractions, Polnička offers several events held annually. The Silvestrovský běh is a ski race on historic skis for children and adults. The Polničský masopust is held as a masked procession through the village. The Jarní jarmark focuses on a craft event. These three formats appeal to different interests: taking part in a sporting event, attending a local procession or visiting a market with a focus on crafts.
Village square and traces of the past
The dominant building on the village square is the Chapel of the Guardian Angel with a tower. It was built in 1902–1903 according to plans by the builder František Křelina from Žďár. The chapel provides the village centre with a clear architectural landmark and complements the nature and leisure attractions with a building whose construction date is precisely documented.
Polnička's industrial past is also embedded in the village landscape. Two furnaces of the former ironworks stood at the present-day house numbers 114 and 163–165. They are explicitly a historical testimony to the former ironworks, not a current operating site.
Cycling connection to Žďár nad Sázavou
The paved Žďár nad Sázavou–Polnička cycle path runs between Žďár nad Sázavou and Polnička.
