Pokojov between local history and a watery landscape

Pokojov combines small cultural monuments with a landscape in which ponds, a stream and a designated educational trail serve as the main points of orientation. The first explicit mention of the village dates from 1437. Those wishing to combine historical discoveries with observations of nature will therefore find not merely a stopover here, but several distinct themes to explore.

Chapel, Cross and a Small Way of the Cross

The chapel in Pokojov was built in 1862 and is dedicated to Panna Marie Bolestná, Our Lady of Sorrows. Directly beside it stands a stone cross dating from 1843. Together with a small Way of the Cross, these structures are among the village’s small monuments.

The history of the chapel’s use is also documented. Following the consecration of a new image of Panna Marie Bolestná on 15 August 1925, the chapel was opened to the public. It was also permitted to celebrate Mass in Pokojov once a year in September. This information describes a historical arrangement and should not be understood as a statement about current opening hours or a present-day events programme.

Most Pond and Milling History

Most Pond lies south of Pokojov. There was a mill at each end of the pond. At the lower mill, grain was ground with a millstone in the traditional manner and linseed oil was pressed until 1926. This gives the waterscape an economic-historical dimension: the pond has been handed down not only as a landscape feature, but also as a place associated with earlier processing and work.

To the south and east, the Bohdalovský potok stream forms the cadastral boundary of Pokojov. A cadastral boundary is a defined administrative boundary of a municipality’s territory. For orientation, this provides a clear spatial connection between the village, Most Pond and the stream, without implying any particular accessibility or a signposted circular route.

Connection with Nature and Choice of Routes

A yellow-marked hiking trail runs along the southeastern edge of the municipality’s territory. In addition, the 38-kilometre Bohdalovsko Nature Park educational trail passes through a broader natural and landscape area. At its Pokojov station, Fickův rybník is designated as a site of community importance. Fickův rybník is also a contractually protected area.

One further piece of information is important for cyclists: there is no designated cycle path or designated cycling route within the territory of Pokojov. Those wishing to compare different activities can therefore regard the marked hiking trail and the 38-kilometre educational trail as documented points of orientation, but should not assume that any dedicated cycling infrastructure is available within the municipality.

A Historical Detail for Families

A clearly dated example of local traditions is the traditional fishing competitions for children held in Pokojov on 3 July 2021. The date makes clear that this was a past event, not an announced date for a future trip. For families who enjoy exploring local stories through specific events, this look back complements the older evidence surrounding the chapel, mills and ponds.
