Křižánky Between Village History and a Rocky Landscape
Křižánky combines an exceptionally rich cultural heritage with trails through a distinctive landscape. The village heritage reservation comprises 45 cultural monuments and is also the largest village heritage reservation in the Vysočina Region. This creates a destination where local history is visible not only in individual buildings but also shapes the character of the entire village.
File-Makers and Glassmakers as Defining Themes
A special approach to local history leads to the file-making workshop in the Kupcův Mill complex. Authentic structures and elements have been preserved there, bearing witness to the workshop’s original function and historical value. The Za Pilníkáři na Český kopec educational trail complements this with the history of the file-makers of Křižánky. Those interested in craft traditions can therefore get to know the area from two different perspectives: once through preserved parts of a workshop and once through a themed educational trail.
The landscape below Čtyři palice also tells the story of earlier work. The information panels along the Milovská educational trail present its history and point out the remains of a glassworks built in 1835. The circular trail is 4.7 kilometres long and has 20 stops. At the Na Milovské huti Gallery, the educational programme includes a guided tour of the glassmakers’ settlement and the exhibition, as well as a lecture and a discussion.
Educational Trails in Different Formats
For a shorter route, the Naše stromy educational trail is a good choice. It begins in the centre of Křižánky and follows the green hiking trail towards the summit of Devět skal. Along approximately one kilometre, 25 stops await you; the walking time is 30 to 60 minutes. Nineteen mostly native tree species are presented. The trail thus combines a manageable distance with specific information about the trees along the route.
Devět skal lies in the cadastral area of Moravské Křižánky. This protected, geomorphologically significant gneiss rock formation forms a rock city with vegetation on silicate rocks and scree areas, as well as adjacent forest stands. This makes the landscape experience distinctly different from the cultural and historical stops in the village. You can therefore choose between a walk focused on trees, a longer circular trail combining landscape and industrial history, and an exploration of a distinctive rock formation.
Orientation on Site
The Svratka River divides Křižánky into a Czech and a Moravian part. A first point of contact for orientation is the TIC Křižánky in the municipal office building; it is accessible by lift. When choosing accommodation, the structure of the village therefore offers various thematic points of connection: the village heritage reservation and the history of file-making on the one hand, and educational trails, glassworks history, and the rocky landscape on the other.
