Culture and history in Křídla
Křídla combines a distinctive cultural monument, historical local landmarks and a designated cycling route. Particularly unusual is the bell tower of Křídla: the protected cultural monument dates from 1843. On 26 September 2024, the bell tower was moved approximately 18 metres away from the busy road. The two dates refer to different aspects of the same building: 1843 marks its construction, while 2024 marks its later relocation.
Another cultural focal point is the municipality's cultural centre. Jan Blažek decorated the façade of the cultural centre with sgraffiti. This technique involves applying layers of differently coloured plaster on top of one another. As long as the upper layer remains intact, it conceals the colour underneath. By removing selected areas, the second layer of colour becomes visible; the contrast creates the façade image. The façade image is therefore created through the interplay of the visible layers and the treated surface. The coloured layers of plaster are thus part of the wall, not an applied image or separate object. Alongside its historic bell tower, Křídla therefore also has an example of decorative architecture at its cultural centre.
Festival and shared experiences
The Křídla Festival takes place every year at the cultural centre of the municipality of Křídla. Its programme combines concerts, theatre, exhibitions, food and drinks, a church service, a clothes bazaar and film screenings. The first edition of the festival took place in 2000. For your travel planning, this means that Křídla stands not only for individual historic buildings, but also for a recurring cultural event with several different programme areas.
Cycling between Křídla and the surrounding area
If you would like to discover Křídla through an active travel idea, two details are particularly relevant. Road II/385 runs through Křídla and leads towards Olešná and Brno. The marked non-regional cycling route “Mlynářská stezka” is designated for the Křídla area and runs along the section between Nové Město na Moravě, Křídla and Zvole.
Křídla lies on the southern boundary of the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area. This geographical reference complements the cultural and cycling themes with a protected landscape region, without equating the village itself with the entire protected area. When looking for a hotel or other accommodation, you can therefore first decide whether culture, the festival or cycling should be the main focus of your trip.
Historical traces in the municipality
Other historical local landmarks in the municipality of Křídla include the Rychta No. 1 building and the hamlet of Lamplotův mlýn. The building dates back to the 16th century; it also once included a brewery. The hamlet likewise belongs to the municipality of Křídla and is mentioned as early as 1587.
