Dolní Rožínka between Castle History and Unusual Experiences

Dolní Rožínka combines historical traces with exhibitions that create their own surprising atmosphere. The Strašidelný zámek Draxmoor is particularly distinctive. The attraction is housed in a former distillery building whose history dates back to the 17th century. During a visit, you pass through three floors of the exhibition. A spooky elevator also takes visitors to an underground exhibition area. The tour begins with a short film in the oldest still-operating 3D cinema. This creates a visit that combines historic building fabric with staged exhibition elements.

Castle, Chapels and Lesopark Templ

The history of the town itself also offers specific points of interest. The predecessor fortress of Zámek Dolní Rožínka was first mentioned in 1459. At the end of the 16th century, the Pernštejns converted Dolní Rožínka Fortress into a Renaissance castle. Those interested in the development of historic sites will therefore find a progression here from the medieval fortress to the later castle.

Lesopark Templ lies east of Dolní Rožínka. Jan Nepomuk Mitrovský founded it at the end of the 18th century. It still contains a pink Neoclassical chapel with the tomb of Jan Nepomuk Mitrovský, as well as an Egyptian obelisk in the Empire style. The forest park also includes an English bath. The individual elements give the site a distinctly cultural and historical character that differs from the exhibition at Draxmoor.

Another historical trace leads to the Jívina ruins on a hill above the town. The chapel ruins were built by Jan Nepomuk Mitrovský between 1781 and 1789. Jívina may have been built as a romantic setting for excursions by the nobility from the castle and its guests on the occasion of the ceremonial conclusion of a hunt. This possible interpretation is part of the site's special history, but it explicitly remains a conjecture.

Experiences for Families During the Holidays

For families, Svět skřítků a víl is a separate highlight in Dolní Rožínka. The exhibition opens every year during the school holidays and includes a quiz game. Its route leads through meadows with fairies, a forest and the dwellings of forest and village goblins. In addition, Svět skřítků a víl displays more than 1,500 handmade figures in the cultural centre of Dolní Rožínka. This allows you to combine a walk through designed landscapes with an extensive presentation in the cultural centre. Depending on your interests, you can therefore plan your visit more as a route through meadows and forest or as an exhibition experience.

Specific Information for Getting There

There are two clear reference points for spatial orientation. A bus stop is located directly in Dolní Rožínka. Rožná railway station is approximately 5 km from Draxmoor. This approximate distance refers to Draxmoor and should therefore not be applied indiscriminately to all sights. If you would like to combine a visit to the haunted castle with other historical or family-oriented experiences, you can choose the location of your accommodation with these specific destinations and arrival points in mind.
