Daňkovice between Landscape and Village History

Daňkovice is located in the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area, on the southeastern foothills of the 813-metre-high Buchtův kopec. Two particularly tangible aspects of the Žďárské vrchy thus come together in the village: a landscape that can be explored via hiking trails and a village history that remains visible in remarkable buildings. This creates a destination where a hike and a cultural tour do not appear as separate activities, but rather offer different ways of experiencing the same place.

Buchtův kopec is not merely a distinctive elevation. It lies on a red-marked hiking trail between Sněžné and Daňkovice. The two hikes from Daňkovice differ significantly in their routes and destinations: “Kolem Buchtova kopce” follows a circular route via Sněžné and Krásné back to Daňkovice, while “Přes Buchtův kopec” leads up the 813-metre-high mountain.

Hiking Trails with Different Routes

The “Kolem Buchtova kopce” hiking route runs from Daňkovice via Sněžné and Krásné back to Daňkovice. Its defining feature is the circular route: both the starting point and the destination are in Daňkovice, while the trail passes through Sněžné and Krásné. The circular route connects the three villages of Daňkovice, Sněžné and Krásné before returning to the starting point.

The “Přes Buchtův kopec” hike offers a different route. It begins in Daňkovice and leads up Buchtův kopec. Compared with the circular trail, the focus here is on the ascent to the 813-metre-high elevation. If, when planning your day, you want to distinguish between a route passing through several villages and a hike with the mountain as its clear destination, the two descriptions provide clear guidance.

The Tolerance Church and Regional Folk Architecture

One of the most unusual sights in Daňkovice is the Tolerance Church. It is one of the few surviving monuments from the Tolerance Period. Its exterior distinguishes it from many familiar church designs: the Tolerance Church has neither a tower nor bells. Its entrance from the fields has also been preserved. These details in particular make the building a place where history can be understood not only through a date, but also through its form and surviving structural elements.

Two folk farmhouses also complement the historic villagescape with different architectural features. The folk farmhouse at Daňkovice 41 is considered a valuable example of regional folk architecture. It is a timber building on a high masonry foundation. The folk farmhouse at Daňkovice 47 is a typical rural building with its gable facing the village green. In the living room, a bread oven and a tiled stove have been preserved. Together, the two houses demonstrate various details of rural building and domestic culture.
