Rumburk: Culture, Hiking and Cycling

Rumburk combines a clearly defined hiking excursion with Baroque religious culture, regional history and a cycling route along the Mandava. Here you can combine an active day on the Naučná stezka Dymník with visits to Loreta Rumburk, historic buildings and museum exhibitions. The town also offers specific options for planning different daily rhythms: an easy circular trail contrasts with a cycling route of around 40 kilometres and several cultural destinations.

Hiking on the Naučná stezka Dymník

The excursion on the Naučná stezka Dymník begins at Lužické náměstí in Rumburk, near the municipal information centre. The circular trail is 8 kilometres long, takes around three hours and is rated as easy. This gives you a precise idea of the excursion’s length and character when planning, without reducing the route to a mere list of sights.

The return section of the circular trail follows the yellow hiking trail marking and cycle route 3014 back to the centre. The route therefore forms a coherent circuit with a fixed starting point and a return to Rumburk.

Religious Sites with Their Own History

Loreta Rumburk is a Baroque religious complex accessible year-round. It offers guided tours and is also a station on the international Via Sacra pilgrimage route. Architecture is therefore not the only focus here: you can learn about the site through its religious significance, its connection to an international pilgrimage route and a guided tour with explanations.

The Church of St Bartholomew also reaches far back into history. The original wooden church was built at the end of the 12th or beginning of the 13th century; the oldest written reference dates from 1352. The church hosts classical music concerts and other cultural events. Another prominent historical monument is the Trinity Column in Rumburk, an early Baroque sandstone column with a statue of the Immaculata dating from 1681.

Museum and Knowledge of the Landscape

The Muzeum Rumburk complements the buildings with regional themes. The “Střípky z historie” exhibition is devoted to the history of the Rumbursko area and important figures from the region. The “Granitová krajina šluknovská” exhibition presents the geological history of the Šluknovský výběžek. The museum thus combines religious and local culture with regional geology.

Cycling Along the Mandava

For a longer tour, the approximately 40-kilometre Mandavská cyklostezka is an option. It follows the course of the Mandava through Rumburk and continues to Žitava. Compared with the 8-kilometre Dymník circular trail, it offers a considerably longer route option. Rumburk can therefore be explored both via an easy circular trail and along a longer route beside a river.
