Tetschen-Bodenbach: Culture, Water and Paths along the Elbe

Tetschen-Bodenbach combines historical discoveries, water experiences and paths through the landscape along the Elbe. This makes the town suitable for varied days: a visit to the castle can be followed by a tour through historic districts, a walk along Pastýřská stěna can be combined with museum visits, and the Aquapark, theatre and boat trips are also part of the range of activities.

Water, Wellness and Activities for Families

Aquapark Děčín offers a 25-metre indoor pool, a pool with water attractions, whirlpools and three water slides. The facilities also include a 25-metre outdoor pool that is open year-round and heated to 25°C. The wellness centre offers massages. In the summer pool, a whitewater current, massage loungers and water fountains provide additional water experiences.

Děčín Zoo also combines animal observation with a children's area, a petting zoo, interactive installations and several educational trails. Děčín Castle is a starting point for several cultural experiences. Exhibitions can be visited there year-round. A guided city tour with commentary begins in the castle courtyard and leads through Děčín's historic districts, along the banks of the Elbe, and through the castle park and gardens with viewpoints.

The castle complex includes the Růžová zahrada, formerly known as Lóžová zahrada. It was established at the end of the 17th century during the major Baroque reconstruction of Děčín Castle under Count Maxmilián Thun. Around 700 roses were planted in the grounds, including 16 historic varieties. Entry to the Růžová zahrada is possible after purchasing a ticket at the Děčín Castle ticket office.

The exhibition “Město na louce” at the Děčín Regional Museum provides further insights into the past. It presents archaeological finds from the earliest history of Děčín, including medieval pottery shards, skeletal remains and small metal objects. The exhibition “Vývoj lodní dopravy na Labi” displays more than 30 ship models illustrating the development of shipbuilding and conveys the history of shipping in Bohemia. The Děčín Railway Museum focuses on railway communication, signalling and safety technology.

Walking Paths, Running Routes and Sandstone

For shorter routes, Kvádrberk offers four marked running routes of varying difficulty in shaded terrain. The routes range from 750 to 2,750 metres and can also be used for Nordic walking and running with dogs. A circular route of approximately three kilometres leads along Pastýřská stěna; numerous rest areas accompany this easy walk.

Those looking for a more demanding activity will find a via ferrata at Pastýřská stěna with 16 freely accessible routes of varying difficulty. It is considered suitable for climbers without previous climbing experience. Hladový kámen adds a historical accent by the water: it is considered one of the oldest hydrological monuments in Central Europe and emerges above the surface of the Elbe during dry months when water levels are low. The oldest legible inscription on the stone dates from 1616.

Synagogue, Theatre and Trips on the Elbe

The Děčín Synagogue was built in 1906–1907 in the pseudo-oriental style with pronounced Art Nouveau elements. Following extensive reconstruction, it is now an important centre of cultural and social life in the city. Tours can be arranged by telephone at +420 412 531 095.

Městské divadlo Děčín offers professional drama, opera, operetta and ballet performances. It also hosts classical music concerts and has a theatre café and a gallery in the foyer. During the summer months, Kino Sněžník hosts an open-air cinema in the outdoor areas of Děčín Castle.

For a combination of landscape and movement, boat trips depart from Smetanovo nábřeží in Děčín. They can be combined with hiking or cycling tours. The Labská stezka runs between Děčín and Dolní Žleb and offers views of sandstone cliffs in the Elbe Canyon.
