Malšovice: Nature, Trails and Bohemian History

Malšovice combines a varied landscape with small but remarkable cultural monuments. The municipality stretches from the course of the Elbe at approximately 130 m above sea level to Javorský vrch at 617 m, the highest point in the municipality. If you would like to combine nature experiences, trails with clearly defined routes and historical discoveries during your trip, you will find several different points of interest here.

Landscape between the Elbe and Javorský vrch

The landscape of Malšovice is characterized by meadows and pastures, in many places supplemented by small stands of trees and field margins. The Bohyňská lada Nature Reserve, covering 41.1383 hectares, is associated with Malšovice. It protects wet, mesic and dry grassland ecosystems with occurrences of orchids and old fruit varieties. The protected area also includes oak-hornbeam forests, floodplain forests, and the preserved bed of the Račí potok stream with its tributaries.

Bohyňská lada lies in the cadastral area of Malšovice and is suitable for botanical and other natural-history excursions; such excursions already take place there. Another natural monument is located in the central part of Stará Bohyně: a yew tree designated as a natural monument stands there. The development of the municipality is also influenced by the existence of the České středohoří Protected Landscape Area.

Cycling and Hiking

Cycle Route No. 3068 begins in Malšovice. It continues via Choratice and Dobkovice to Slavošov. Cycle Route No. 3067 runs from Děčín through Malšovice and Javory onward in the direction of Modrá. This allows two differently described route options to be included in travel planning without reducing the surrounding area to just one route.

Several marked hiking trails also pass through the municipality. A green-marked trail runs from Dobkovice via Borek and Petrův vrch and continues through Hliněná and Javory to Jílové. A yellow-marked hiking trail leads through Javory and over Javorský vrch.

Javory and the History of Malšovice

Javory is one of the seven districts of the municipality of Malšovice. The small Church of St. Procopius stands in the village center. It developed from a stone chapel built in 1748–1749 and was finally converted into a late Baroque church between 1772 and 1816. The municipality of Malšovice carried out a restoration project on the building that included, among other things, the façade, windows, doors, roof and sacristy structures, masonry, wooden elements and the interior.

A pilgrimage has been held in Javory every year since 2007 on the feast day of St. Procopius. Further historical traces can be found in the archaeological area of Malšovice: finds from the Lusatian culture were discovered there, and a medieval fortified manor that has since disappeared is also located there. House No. 25 in Javory is also protected as an immovable cultural monument.

Malšovice is connected to Děčín by a first-class road. Railway line No. 090 also runs through the municipality; the nearest railway station or stop is Choratice.
