Líska combines an easy hike with protected landscapes, distinctive basalt formations and an illustrative local history. When planning a trip, nature and culture can be combined here: the route “Na Zlatý vrch a na Studenec” focuses on landscape protection, geology and historical monuments. Specific information about the route length and starting point also provides clear guidance for planning the day.

Natural Monuments and Basalt Landscapes

Zlatý vrch is a national natural monument in the Lužické hory Protected Landscape Area. Its geology is particularly clear at the now-disused quarry, where excellently formed basalt columns are exposed, reaching up to 30 m in length. Studenec, also known as Studený vrch, is a distinctive landscape feature with block fields of olivine basalt and peridotite inclusions. The Studený vrch Nature Reserve is also located within the Lužické hory Protected Landscape Area.

The nature reserve encompasses extensive scree fields and remnants of original forest stands. The PP Líska Natural Monument also draws attention to special forest habitats: it protects forest communities with the character of scree forests. The perennial honesty (Lunaria rediviva) occurs there in abundance. Geology and forest habitats are not separate from one another: basalt columns, scree fields, forest remnants and perennial honesty form different facets of the natural environment around Líska.

A Clearly Described Hike

The “Na Zlatý vrch a na Studenec” route is a 5 km long, easy hike. It begins at a small car park in the upper part of the settlement of Líska. Zlatý vrch, in the cadastral area of Líska, can be reached via a trail marked with hiking signs. With its 5 km length and easy rating, the tour can be planned as a manageable day of hiking. The start in the upper part of the settlement establishes the location of the beginning; the marked trail provides clear guidance for access to Zlatý vrch. This keeps the focus of the activity on a compact connection between Líska, Zlatý vrch and Studenec.

Historical Monuments in Líska

A metal lookout tower dating from 1888 stands on Studenec. It is considered the second-oldest in Czechia, is a technical cultural monument and was reconstructed in 2009. Its construction history complements nature observation with a distinctive example of technical culture. The year of construction, monument status and reconstruction link the tower’s original construction date with its later preservation.

The local history also includes two different rural buildings. House No. 13 in Líska is a two-storey rural glassmaker’s house from the first half of the 19th century. It has a rectangular floor plan, a roof partly designed as a mansard roof, a timber-framed upper storey and a living room with infill construction on a stone base. House No. 58 is a rural estate with a two-storey, four-part rectangular house under a gabled roof and an operational section in the form of a smithy dating from the late 18th century. The two houses thus offer a comparison of different rural building types and periods: Glassmaker’s House No. 13 dates from the first half of the 19th century, while Estate No. 58, with its smithy, belongs to the late 18th century.
