Churches, Chapels and Historic Village Landscapes

A central cultural landmark is the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. It was built between 1771 and 1780 on the site of an earlier Gothic church. Its predominantly Baroque furnishings include, among other things, wood carvings by Ondřej Schweigl. Services are held in the church. For visitors interested in sacred art and regional architectural history, the church therefore provides a particularly distinctive point of interest.

Other sacred buildings in Vlkoš include the Chapel of Saint Florian and the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk. The latter stands opposite the former manor house in Vlkoš. At the exit from the village toward Kelčany, you will also find the U tří svatých devotional site. Búdy and Vlkoš’s Wine Tradition

The Búdy area is particularly characteristic: a row of cellars with 140 wine cellars. The row includes examples of original folk cellar architecture. Wine is therefore not the only focus; the form in which the regional wine tradition is made visible is also important. The network of routes also reflects this theme. The Moravská vinná stezka passes the wine cellars of Vlkoš and connects the area around Uherské Hradiště with Znojmo. The Kyjovská vinařská stezka begins at the former mill grounds in Vlkoš, near a Baroque chapel from the second half of the 18th century. About 2 kilometres from the village centre lies the Achtele cellar colony on the Moravská vinná stezka. It can be reached via the route from the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary or along the local cemetery. Military Museum and Special Events

The Military muzeum generála Sergěje Jana Ingra displays extensive collections from the Second World War representing all armies, as well as contemporary military exhibitions. If you are travelling with several people or plan to make the museum a fixed part of your day, you should take these changing hours into account in advance.

Local events include Vlkošské dny vojenských tradic. The two-day event includes a Saturday programme and memorial ceremonies on Sunday. Zarážání hory, held in August, is another of the cultural and social wine events organised by Přátelé Achtele. These dates add a distinct accent alongside the churches, row of cellars and museum. Those travelling with children can choose from these different themes the activities that suit their family’s interests, without limiting the stay to just one attraction.

Bus routes no. 664 from Kyjov to Hodonín, no. 665 from Kyjov to Bzenec and no. 666 from Kyjov to Osvětimany pass through Vlkoš.
