Hnanice brings together the history of St. Wolfgang Church, winegrowing and several hiking routes. Two circular trails start at the church, while the trail to Ĺ obes starts at Hotel Vinice. For your stay, you can choose between a circular trail rated easy, a moderately difficult hike and a wine tasting arranged in advance.

St. Wolfgang: Church Consecration and Well Chapel

St. Wolfgang Church was solemnly consecrated on 3 April 1510. At the same time, nine altars inside it were consecrated. The exact date and number of altars are part of the recorded history of the church building; they describe the consecration at the time and are not information about current visiting times.

In the Chapel of St. Wolfgang, two large horseshoes hang on sturdy chains above a well with a stone surround. Alongside the building’s history, this unusual furnishing detail has also been preserved. If you would like to visit the church or chapel interiors, check access arrangements in advance.

Two Circular Trails Starting at the Church

The Hnanice–Holy Stone circular trail starts and ends at St. Wolfgang Church. It is approximately 4.5 kilometres long and rated easy, with little elevation gain. Near Hnanice is a place known as Holy Stone, which is believed to have served ritual and ceremonial purposes as early as prehistoric times. This interpretation is explicitly a supposition.

The Devět mlýnů circular trail also starts and ends at the church. It is approximately 6.5 kilometres long. If you compare the two circular trails, they share the same starting and ending point but differ in length. The easy rating of the trail to Holy Stone should not automatically be applied to Devět mlýnů. Check the current route and trail conditions before setting out.

Through Vineyards and Oak Woods to Ĺ obes

The Hnanice–Šobes hiking trail starts at Hotel Vinice in Hnanice and is rated moderately difficult. It passes vineyards, goes through heat-loving oak woods, follows the Dyje, crosses rocky sections and climbs to heathland. When choosing this hike, therefore, the changing terrain and moderate rating are relevant as well as the vineyards.

ZnovĂn Walking offers other circular trails in the area around Ĺ atov, Hnanice and HavranĂky. The shorter loops are six to twelve kilometres long and start at Hotel Happy Star in Hnanice. These distances alone do not establish that the trails are suitable for beginners.

Cellar Lane, Wine Tasting and Cycling Route

Sklepní ulička is one of the most original cellar lanes in the Znojmo wine-growing region. Vinařství Špetíci in Hnanice offers wine by the glass and guided tastings. Contact the winery in advance to arrange an appointment; a spontaneous visit does not guarantee that a tasting will be available.

For cyclists, the cross-border Thayatal National Park cycling route is another specific point of interest: it passes through Hnanice. The cycling route, cellar lane and hikes with different difficulty ratings offer different ways to enjoy a stay focused on wine and scenery.
