Strašice between the Village Square and Kolčava

Strašice combines rural cultural history with distinctive links to the surrounding landscape. Below Strašice, the Novosedelský potok flows, also known as the Kolčava. On the village square stands the Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows among mature lime trees; a monument to the fallen of the First World War also stands there. Some houses in Strašice have been preserved in the rural folk architecture of the 19th century. In a small area, you can therefore encounter religious heritage, commemorative culture and traditional architectural forms. On a walk, these themes can be considered separately: the watercourse represents the connection with the landscape, the village square represents religious heritage and commemorative culture, and the preserved houses represent rural architectural history. This allows you to shape your visit around your own interest in nature, local history or architecture.

Chapels, Mills and Historic Traces

The Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows has a recurring acoustic detail: its bells ring at midday and in the evening. A chapel with a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk is maintained on the bridge over the Kolčava. Former mills along the Kolčava also recall an earlier use of the river. They have not milled grain for several decades and have been converted for recreational use.

The Boží muka in Strašice also tell a story of change and preservation. They date from 1676 and were restored in 2024 based on a surviving image by an unknown painter. Today, the restored Boží muka stand in a slightly different location because the original wayside monument was finally demolished in the 1950s when an intersection was widened.

In Škůdra, the chapel on the village square dates from 1831. The chapel on the hill stands about 300 metres north of the village square. According to legend, the ancient chapel in Škůdra was probably built in memory of Swedish soldiers who died in 1645 during the invasion of the Prácheň region.
