Mečichov lies in a varied landscape of forests, ponds, fields and meadows. The village combines these different natural features with a village centre whose circular square and chapels shape its appearance. During a stay, this makes it possible to experience the cultural centre, open landscape and paths through the surrounding area together.

The Village Square as a Cultural Centre

The Chapel of the Virgin Mary and Saint Adalbert stands in the middle of a large, circular village square. The square is lined with original, predominantly agricultural farmsteads and is designated as a cultural asset. The Chapel of Saint Adalbert in Mečichov is registered as an immovable cultural monument. Together, the square, farmsteads and chapel form a closely connected village landscape. Several characteristic elements of Mečichov are therefore concentrated in one place: the round shape of the village square, the agriculturally shaped buildings and the religious structure. Anyone who wants to get to know a place not only through its landscape but also through its historic centre will find a clear cultural focus here.

Ponds, Meadows and Ecological Biocentres

The landscape around Mečichov also offers a variety of natural settings. The Bílý Kámen ecological biocentre covers an area of 46.4 hectares in the cadastral area of Mečichov. It includes ponds as well as the surrounding wet and dry meadows. Another ecological biocentre, Nad Mečichovem, encompasses a rocky, boulder-rich upland area with a predominantly wooded remnant of woodland. This places two clearly different landscape features side by side: Bílý Kámen combines bodies of water with open meadows, while Nad Mečichovem is characterised by boulders, an upland area and woodland. This difference is useful when planning a day trip if you want to distinguish between an open landscape accompanied by ponds and wooded terrain rich in boulders. The nature around Mečichov therefore offers not just a uniform landscape, but several clearly recognisable forms.

Cycling and Connections to the Surrounding Area

Mečichov is connected to two cycling routes. Cycling Route 1064 runs from Kadov via Čečelovice to Mečichov. Cycling Route 312 continues from Mečichov to Bratronice, Jindřichovice and Blatná. The two routes run in different directions: one reaches the village via Kadov and Čečelovice, while the other leads from here via Bratronice and Jindřichovice to Blatná. When planning a cycling tour, the desired connection is therefore decisive because the starting and destination locations are not the same. In addition, there are bus connections from Mečichov to Strakonice, Blatná and Horažďovice. Cycling and bus connections thus establish different geographical links. Anyone wishing to compare the surrounding area in stages can consider the respective places and directions separately rather than treating both cycling routes as the same path.

A Chapel on the Road to Horažďovice

Less than one kilometre from the village, a roadside niche chapel stands by the road to Horažďovice. It was built in 1911 and restored in 2005. Alongside the village square and the chapel in the village centre, this provides another small structure in the surrounding area. The niche chapel adds a location outside the village centre to the cultural landscape and connects the history of the village with the road to Horažďovice. When exploring Mečichov, the central village square and a smaller structure in the nearby surroundings can thus be experienced as different cultural points of reference.
