Lom combines a long village history with a predominantly rural settlement character that has survived to this day, protected landscape areas and marked cycle routes. This gives you various starting points for planning your trip: You can explore the history of the village, discover the landscape along the Lomnice or experience Lom as part of a cycling route.

History and Rural Settlement Character

The first written reference to the village of Lom appears in a royal charter issued by John of Luxembourg and dated 24 August 1341. At that time, the settlement included a farm called Lom with fields, forests and meadows. The municipality’s original settlement character is predominantly rural and shaped by agricultural estates and farmsteads. Most of the buildings have a rectangular floor plan and a gabled roof; L-shaped floor plans occur occasionally. More recent construction has not significantly affected this original settlement character. The farmsteads therefore continue to define the village’s architectural character.

In the village centre stands a brick bell tower bearing the year 1882. The tower has an iron cross and two side windows. Above the entrance is a sheet-metal roof; the roof is covered with fired tiles. The chapel in Lom, built in 1882 to replace a wooden bell house, also dates from that year. It has been preserved and renovated to this day.

Landscape along the Lomnice

In the northern part of the Míreč cadastral area lies a legally registered significant landscape element: the Lomnice river floodplain. The Lom regional ecological corridor Střížovický vrch–Buzičky also belongs to the area of Lom. Near Míreč, traces of human activity from historical gold panning have survived along the Lomnice River to this day. The area where gold was once panned is locally known as V jamkách because of the depressions left behind by this activity.

Cycle Routes and Paths into the Surrounding Area

Cyclists will find two marked routes in Lom that follow different courses. Cycle loop route No. 1 runs through Lom between Sedlice and Škvořetice. Marked cycle route No. 31 leads from Lom towards Škvořetice. The two routes differ in terms of planning a day trip: the loop incorporates Lom between Sedlice and Škvořetice, while cycle route No. 31 begins in Lom and leads towards Škvořetice. The “In the Footsteps of Mikoláš Aleš” route leads to the municipality of Míreč via a field path.

There is also a specific point of interest for stays catering to different interests: The Jezdecký Klub U Rádi in the Míreč–Lom district offers children’s camps and riding lessons for all experience levels, from beginners to advanced riders. When choosing your accommodation and planning your days, you can therefore weigh up village history, the landscape, cycle routes and riding activities without committing to just one type of holiday.
