Libějovice represents a Baroque cultural landscape with diverse historical and scenic features. In the regional context of Libějovicko-Lomecko lies a composed Baroque cultural landscape whose design incorporates, among other features, the Starý zámek, the Nový zámek and Nový Dvůr. For travel planning, châteaux, pilgrimage history, avenues and marked trails come together here.

Châteaux with Different Characters

The Starý zámek is a picturesque Renaissance building from the mid-16th century. Its triple entrance gate has a surviving Gothic-vaulted passageway. The building is privately owned and not open to the public. It therefore belongs in the historical orientation of the place, not in an on-site visit.

The Nový zámek creates a different architectural accent: The imposing, elongated late Empire-style building is surrounded by lush parkland. Its construction began in 1696; it was completed swiftly between 1747 and 1754. The Nový zámek is also not open to the public. Nový Dvůr was built under the Rosenbergs between 1587 and 1590.

The Libějovická Linden Avenue and Lomec

The Libějovická Linden Avenue consists predominantly of linden trees and lines the old road connecting the pilgrimage chapel of svaté Máří, the Nový zámek in Libějovice and the Lomec pilgrimage center in the Strakonice District. A blue-marked hiking route and the Julia Zeyer Trail run through the avenue. In 2008, it received the title “Strom hrdina”. In Libějovický Park, 37 breeding bird species were recorded, including five specially protected species.

The Church of the Name of the Virgin Mary in Lomec was built between 1699 and 1704 by Count Buquoy for a miraculous statue of the Virgin Mary with the infant Jesus and is considered an important work of the High Baroque in Central Europe. It is open daily, so you can visit its interior. Poutní dům Lomec offers individuals and groups overnight accommodation in single and twin rooms.

Routes and Suitable Travel Priorities

The Historická krajina Netolicko cycling circuit is an approximately 50-kilometre educational route with 16 stations and information panels in three languages. Its northern section leads into the Libějovicko-Lomecko landscape zone; the municipality of Libějovice, with two châteaux, is located there. The Lomecký běh is a running competition on a forest route around Lomec.

When choosing accommodation in Libějovice, you can first determine your preferred focus: cultural and historical discoveries, a walk through the linden avenue, the longer cycling circuit or a pilgrimage visit. The different formats structure your stay according to your interests without confusing the inaccessible châteaux with the open attractions in Lomec.
