Tourov combines historical traces with a clearly identifiable landscape setting. In Tourov are the remains of a Gothic stronghold, while a niche chapel stands on the edge of the settlement. At the same time, the village lies below Lesný Hill, which is visible west of Tourov. Those looking for accommodation in Tourov will therefore find several different points of reference: historical relics in the village, a small chapel on the edge of the settlement and a distinctive landscape landmark to the west.

Historical Traces in Tourov

The Gothic stronghold is one of the village’s distinct historical points of reference. Remains of it have survived to the present day; it was probably founded in the 14th century. The term “stronghold” refers to a fortified complex and denotes a different type of cultural monument from the nearby Helfenburk Castle Ruins. The ruins of the Tourov stronghold are located on private property. When planning a visit, it is therefore important to distinguish between the site’s historical existence and possible accessibility.

A niche chapel also stands on the edge of the Tourov settlement. It complements the larger historical sites with a small religious structure associated with the village. Together with the remains of the Gothic stronghold, it makes clear that Tourov’s history cannot be tied to just one destination, but is also visible directly within and on the edge of the settlement.

Lesný Hill as a Landscape Reference

Tourov lies below Lesný Hill. The 600 m-high hill is visible from Tourov in a westerly direction and thus provides a specific reference point for orientation in the area. This information describes the hill’s location and its visibility from Tourov; it does not automatically say anything about a climb or a particular route. This distinction can nevertheless be helpful when choosing a hotel in Tourov if you prefer a location with a visible landscape reference.

Helfenburk and the Blue-Marked Hiking Trail

The Helfenburk Castle Ruins are located approximately 2.5 km northwest of Tourov and are protected as a cultural monument. They are therefore outside the settlement and constitute a separate historical destination. A blue-marked hiking trail runs near Tourov along the road from Bavorov and leads to Helfenburk Castle. Tourov can also be reached via a turnoff from the road to Prachatice. The road to Prachatice and the blue-marked trail are different lines of reference: the former places the village in terms of transport connections, while the latter indicates the connection to the castle. This does not mean that the trail starts entirely in Tourov or that the distance is equivalent to the length of the hiking trail.
