Štěchovice combines historic buildings, a living Easter tradition, and tangible landscape experiences. This gives you various starting points for planning your trip: you can explore Renaissance and Neoclassical architecture, discover traces of medieval history, or focus on the local paths and bodies of water.

Historical Traces around Štěchovice

Zámeček stands in the northeastern part of Štěchovice. The one-storey, three-winged building has Renaissance origins. Later alterations were carried out in the Baroque period; its present appearance was created through a Neoclassical remodelling. This sequence makes Zámeček a clear example of how the appearance of a historic building can change over several periods.

Near the farmstead stands Špejchar, also known as Špýchar. The building dates from the 18th century and is a protected monument. Its former function was that of a contribution granary. The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk, dating from 1861, also stands on the Strakonice–Volenice road.

The Krčohrad castle site is also located near Štěchovice. It is the remains of a castle dating from the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries. Its period places an older historical layer within the history of the village and predates the 18th-century Špejchar. Together with Zámeček, Špejchar, and the chapel, it offers different ways of exploring the history of the village.

Ponds, Sports and Cycle Paths

Štěchovice includes three ponds located about 1 km east of the village. This makes it possible to shape a stay in Štěchovice around both the history of the village and its waterscape. Štěchovice also has a new sports field, where nohejbal tournaments are held as well. The sports field has a table tennis table and a rest pavilion. It therefore brings together sporting activities and an opportunity to relax.

Recommended cycling routes run along minor roads and local traffic routes. Some sections also follow field and forest tracks. This distinction is important when planning a bike trip, because the routes do not run exclusively on paved roads. The combination of minor roads, local traffic routes, and field and forest tracks describes the cycling tours more accurately than simply calling them road routes.

Hrkání during Easter

During Easter, the tradition of Hrkání is maintained in Štěchovice. Until Good Friday, children walk through the village four times a day. On Good Friday, everyone meets at the Chapel of Saint John by the fire and burns a straw-stuffed effigy of Judas. The four daily processions and the shared gathering at the chapel give the Easter period a clearly recognisable sequence. As a result, a stay during Easter takes on a different character from a trip focused on buildings and landscapes.
