Prague combines impressive history with special places for walks, views and cultural discoveries. If you are looking for accommodation in Prague 6, you can plan your stay according to different interests: historic buildings, lively squares, large green spaces or museums offering insights into the culture of Bohemia and Europe.

Prague’s History Between the Castle and the Old Town

Prague Castle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and forms an extensive complex of palaces and sacred buildings in various architectural styles. It includes Romanesque architectural remains from the 10th century as well as Gothic alterations from the 14th century. The castle was probably founded around 880 by Prince Bořivoj of the Přemyslid dynasty. Today, it offers the public tours of historic buildings and exhibitions, as well as concerts, guided tours and other activities.

The historic centre of Prague has also preserved its overall form, its basic layout and its spatial composition. It was spared large-scale urban renewal and extensive demolitions. This makes it possible to trace the city’s development at several notable locations. Old Town Square was established in the 12th century and was the scene of numerous historical events. At the same time, from the 10th century onward it developed as a marketplace at a crossroads of European trade routes. Charles Bridge is the oldest surviving bridge in Prague and adds another defining structure to this historic urban space.

Views and Paths at Vyšehrad

For a different view of Prague, Vyšehrad hill above the Vltava is an appealing option. The fortified settlement was established around the middle of the 10th century. From there, it offers special views over Prague. The Vyšehrad grounds are freely accessible year-round, allowing you to include this historic site in your daily itinerary regardless of seasonal opening hours. History and views come together here in a clearly defined destination.

Petřín: Green Space, Paths and Playgrounds

Petřín is one of Prague’s largest urban green spaces. Petřín Park is crisscrossed by paths with benches, offering a different way to experience the city than visiting palaces, bridges and squares. The park also has several children’s playgrounds. This creates a clearly defined activity for families between cultural sightseeing and time spent outdoors.

Museum and Folk Culture

The Ethnographic Department of the National Museum presents exhibitions featuring unique folk-culture artefacts from the Bohemian lands and Europe. Folklore ensembles also perform there. A visit to the museum broadens your view of Prague to include regional traditions and is particularly suitable if, alongside the well-known historic buildings, you would also like to discover cultural forms of expression.
