Dolní Počernice Between Water, Nature and History

Dolní Počernice combines a historic village center with protected landscapes and paths by the water. At its heart is Velký Počernický rybník, the largest pond within the territory of the capital city of Prague. Together with the castle park, it forms a nature reserve with a total area of approximately 41 ha. The castle park itself is part of the Počernický rybník nature reserve and makes the area particularly interesting for planning a trip that combines experiences in nature with culture.

Discover Ponds and Protected Nature

Velký Počernický rybník is an important nature biocenter in the eastern part of Prague. Aquatic and wetland vegetation characterize the area, which also contains significant nesting sites for waterfowl. The V Pískovna nature reserve is notable for its high biodiversity, particularly due to the presence of rarer aquatic and wetland plants. If you would like to include nature observation in your daily plans, both landscapes can be experienced as distinct focal points.

The western and southwestern shores are particularly suitable for observing the water surface of V Pískovna and the birds swimming there. This specific orientation helps you focus your stay on landscape impressions and wildlife observation without separating nature from the history of the village.

An Educational Trail Through the Village

The educational trail in Dolní Počernice leads from the V Pískovna nature reserve through the village center and the castle park. It then continues across the dam of Velký Počernický rybník and along the pond to the Vinice district. In this way, the route connects several of Dolní Počernice’s defining places in one continuous trail. You can experience nature, bodies of water, parkland and the village center as interconnected themes of your exploration.

Church and Regional Museum

The history of the village can also be experienced in concrete terms. The church of Dolní Počernice is the oldest building in Dolní Počernice. The oldest stone church building has survived to the present day almost completely intact; its remains occupy two-thirds of the floor plan of the current building. In the Regional Museum, you can see historic furniture and objects that illustrate the household and the lives of people in the first half of the 20th century. This creates a cultural contrast with the wetlands and ponds.

Paths and Getting There

U Čeňku Park has 7.7 km of paths, including 5.8 km of unpaved paths. The different path lengths and surfaces provide a clear basis if you would like to compare walks and experiences in nature. Dolní Počernice can be reached by train from Masarykovo nádraží or Prague Main Railway Station to the Dolní Počernice stop. Prague city bus lines 109, 110 and 163 also serve the Dolní Počernice stop.

When looking for a hotel in Dolní Počernice, you can therefore first consider whether you would like to combine your stay primarily with nature observation, historical impressions or paths through parks and landscapes.
