Dáblice between forest, elevation and local history

Dáblice brings together several themes that can be given different emphasis during a trip: nature in Ďáblický háj, the prominent elevation of Ládví, and places with religious, rural and scientific history. Those who want to explore Dáblice will therefore find opportunities both for spending time outdoors and for visiting specific cultural sites. The following places show how diverse the surrounding area is in terms of its landscape and historical features.

Ďáblický háj for walking, exercise and a break

Ďáblický háj covers 68 hectares and lies in the cadastral areas of Ďáblice and Kobylisy. Two hiking trails and cycling routes run through the forest. Ďáblický háj also contains a former quarry. It features outdoor fitness equipment, several children's playgrounds and a picnic area with a fire pit. The former quarry thus combines exercise, play and a place to take a break.

Ládví: elevation and geological history

Ládví is 359 metres high and the highest point in northern Prague. At the same time, Ládví is a geological natural monument. Buližník stone was once quarried in the area. The rock blocks were smoothed when the hill was surrounded by sea. This geological past gives the high point a history of its own, extending beyond the present-day landscape. An important distinction for orientation is that between Ládví's highest point and the location of the observatory: the Ďáblice Observatory stands on a rocky promontory of Ládví at 325 metres above sea level.

Historical traces in Ďáblice

The cultural sites also represent different aspects of the area. Staré Ďáblice has been a village heritage zone since 1991. The Battistova brickworks was declared an immovable cultural monument in 1996. Ďáblice Chateau stands on the site of a former fortress. The two-winged, single-storey Baroque building was rebuilt after the fire of 1755. In the chateau chapel of the Most Holy Trinity and Saint Wenceslas, a fresco of Saint Wenceslas from the second half of the 18th century can be found on the groined vault. The documented traces thus extend from an earlier fortification through village and craft history to sacred art.

Ďáblice Observatory on Ládví

The Ďáblice Observatory dates from 1956 and stands on a rocky promontory of Ládví. It is located at 325 metres above sea level and continues to serve the general public to this day. Together with the geological natural monument and the historic buildings, it forms another clear focal point for anyone who wants to combine nature, cultural history and science when choosing a destination. On a trip involving different interests, you can therefore choose between forest paths, geological history, opportunities for play and picnics, heritage sites and the observatory, without reducing the area thematically to just one attraction.

If you would like to compare other destinations, you can also find Stodůlky, Prague 2, Podolí, Prague 8, Kunratice, Dolni Pocernice, Karlín and Vinohrady.
