Čimice combines impressive archaeological traces with tranquil valleys and distinctive rocky sites. If you would like to combine nature and history on your trip to the Czech Republic, you will find a range of points of interest here: The Hradiště bears witness to almost uninterrupted settlement over many centuries, while trails through the Draháňské and Čimické valleys reveal the landscape and local features.

Archaeological traces spanning many eras

The Hradiště was almost continuously inhabited from the 5th century BC to the 9th century AD. Today, it is protected as a first-category archaeological monument. This extensive time span makes the site particularly interesting for visitors who want to explore historical developments not just through a single structure, but across several eras.

Another focal point is the area of Čimická tvrz. It is an archaeological area with documented or reasonably expected archaeological finds. The findings encompass the Late Roman period, the Migration Period, the Early Middle Ages, the High Middle Ages and the Late Middle Ages. Čimice therefore offers a historical perspective extending from the Roman era into medieval events.

Rocky steppes and valleys

Among the most valuable areas of the Čimické Valley are south-facing rock outcrops of hard Proterozoic schists. They support rocky-steppe plant communities characterized by the steppe grasses Kostřava walliská and Kostřava přitvrdlá. Visitors who want to explore not only built-up areas but also distinctive landscape forms during their stay will find a clearly defined natural highlight here.

The Draháňské Valley is also of particular ecological importance: numerous rare plant and animal species occur there. The landscape is therefore not merely a backdrop for a walk, but a habitat with its own distinct botanical and zoological character.

Hiking trails with different routes

A yellow-marked hiking trail begins at the Sídliště Čimice stop. From there, it leads through the Draháňské Valley, past a former mill, to the banks of the Vltava. The former mill is documented as a historical stop along the route; this does not imply any current use or function.

As part of the loop route, a blue-marked hiking trail leads back through the Čimické Valley. The yellow-marked section runs from the stop through the Draháňské Valley to the Vltava; the blue marking indicates the return route through the Čimické Valley.

Historical details and life in the area today

The area’s older history includes the former Neoclassical Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk, dating from the second half of the 18th century, which stood on the rise above the old village square. Following alterations, only the upper part of the bell tower remains today. A statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands in a niche in the chapel.

Čimice also has a lively local side. “Zažít Čimice jinak” is an annual neighborhood community event that brings public space in Čimice to life and connects residents of all generations. The Galerie mezi stromy exhibits works by local visual artists. Parkáč is also part of the local experience: The place is used by residents of Čimice; people from Bohnice and other places also regularly come there.
