Struhadlo: Educational Trail, Rocks and Village History
Accommodation in Struhadlo
Struhadlo lies at an elevation of approximately 608 metres above sea level below the ridge formed by the summit of Velký Bítov. The village combines marked trails, viewpoints and a village structure that has remained recognisable over centuries. If you would like to combine a stay in the Czech countryside with specific discoveries, you will find several different points of interest here: the “Spiessova naučná stezka” educational trail, the rock formations of the Tupadelské skály and historical traces directly in the village.
Hiking the educational trail through Struhadlo
The “Spiessova naučná stezka” educational trail follows marked hiking paths through Struhadlo. It is approximately 16 km long and has six stations. The third station is titled “Struhadlo / Patersdorf” and gives the trail a direct connection to the village. Along the educational trail on the way to Struhadlo, there is also an uncovered rest area. The length and six stations provide clear guidance for planning a day around the village, without reducing the route to a single excursion destination.
Another documented route is the “Bezděkovské kolečko – ke struhadelskému kříži”. The 16 km-long route is recommended for hikers as well as cyclists using mountain bikes or trekking bikes. It approaches Struhadlo from Soustov via a signposted minor road and crosses the busy I/22 road between Klatovy and Domažlice.
Viewpoints and the Tupadelské skály
The route from Struhadlo leads to the Struhadelský kříž at 692 metres above sea level. From there, there are views in all directions, and photography is possible. Struhadlo itself also offers views of Klatovy, Bezděkov and Šumava. The Tupadelské skály are located in the surrounding area and are designated as a state-protected natural monument. They form an approximately 230-metre-long belt of rocks, usually around 10 metres high and up to 15 metres high at Kočičí hlava. The rocks are used by climbers and create an independent landscape highlight alongside the educational trail.
Historical traces in the village
Struhadlo is also of interest as a historical place. The village layout has changed little over the centuries, as also shown by the map of the first military land survey from the second half of the 18th century. There used to be a bell tower on the village square. House No. 20 formerly contained an inn, and a general school for local children stood on the road from Struhadlo to Tetětice in the 19th century. The Struhadelský kříž was consecrated in October 2009.
Nature and village history when choosing accommodation
When looking for accommodation in Struhadlo, you can base your choice on how you would like to spend your days. The documented trails and viewpoints favour a stay focused on hiking, cycling and the landscape; the largely preserved village layout and the former functions of the bell tower, inn and school also offer a cultural and historical perspective on the village. At present, most houses in Struhadlo are used for recreation.
