Culture, Trails and Water in Nýrsko

Nýrsko offers several clearly distinct starting points for a trip: castle history, local exhibition themes, a nature trail along the Úhlava River, winter sports and an outdoor pool. This allows you to plan your stay around historical discoveries, activity and time by the water. The different focal points also allow for varied planning without reducing the town to just one attraction or activity.

Pajrek Castle and the Forest Theatre

Pajrek Castle was founded before 1356. It is one of the few donjon castles in the Czech Republic and is characterized by a square tower. The original tower had a footprint of 16 × 16 metres and at least three residential floors. The west wall and part of the north wall have survived from the complex. The dimensions and surviving sections of wall make it possible to imagine the castle’s former appearance as a historical focal point of a stay. The historical perspective on Nýrsko can also be complemented by the Lesní divadlo Nýrsko Forest Theatre: construction began in 1933, and the premiere took place on 23 September 1934. This cultural theme therefore brings together medieval architectural history and the history of a later performance venue.

The Nýrsko Museum

The Nýrsko Museum has its own focus on local and regional history. It features permanent exhibitions on Okula and Královský hvozd and has held more than fifty exhibitions over the course of its history. The museum offers individual guided tours for groups of five or more. This makes it possible to tailor a museum visit more closely to your own interests and chosen pace of travel. The permanent exhibitions provide established themes, while the museum’s long exhibition history adds to its development as a cultural venue.

Nature Trail, Ski Area and Outdoor Pool

The Naučná stezka Nýrsko nature trail is approximately 5 kilometres long and leads from the market square past the Úhlava River. It therefore combines a specific route with impressions of the town and its surroundings. Its approximate length helps with planning a walk without turning the route into a precise time requirement. Private ski lessons are offered at the Nýrsko Ski Area. On warmer days, the Koupaliště Nýrsko outdoor pool has two saltwater pools. The large pool has a maximum depth of 1.6 metres, providing a concrete point of reference when planning a day of swimming. After a complete reconstruction, the outdoor pool reopened in June 2017. This brings together, within a compact thematic area, a riverside trail, a winter activity and time by the water.
