Nalžovské Hory – Castle, Forest Park and Trails
Accommodation in Nalžovské Hory
Nalžovské Hory is a destination for travelers who want to combine cultural history with walks and cycling trips. Nalžov Castle, St. Catherine’s Church, Prašivice Forest Park and several marked trail connections reveal different sides of the town.
Nalžov Castle and St. Catherine’s Church
Nalžov Castle takes the form of a four-winged building with an enclosed courtyard. It was probably originally a late Renaissance structure built in the 1620s. In the 1740s, it was remodeled in the late Baroque style; after 1840, the castle was transformed into its present late Empire form. This sequence of changes makes the building an illustrative example of how a historic structure has evolved across several periods.
Another point of reference in the town is St. Catherine’s Church. It stands roughly in the middle of Nalžovské Hory on the old road, on elevated ground above a stream. It can be accessed from the old road and from the area in front of the rectory. The Baroque church was built in 1721–1723 and stands in Nalžovy, a district of Nalžovské Hory. This makes it possible to combine a visit with a look at the local history and the layout of the town.
Prašivice Forest Park and Easy Walks
Northeast of Nalžovské Hory, above the town, lies Prašivice Forest Park on Mount Prašivice. A marked hiking trail leads directly from Nalžov Castle into the forest park. The local sights can be visited during an easy walk along a marked hiking trail. The park therefore offers a different kind of experience from the buildings: Along the forest trail, you will encounter unusual stone sculptures. A dragon has been painted on a partially worked natural boulder, while a turtle has been carved out of another rock; there is also another dragon.
There are also specific points of reference for route planning. The blue-marked TT 1421 hiking trail passes through Prašivice and Nalžovské Hory. Those who want to explore the surrounding area by bicycle can follow cycling route CT 2080. It runs from Klatovy via Nalžovské Hory to Čejkovy. The two connections represent different ways of incorporating the town into a tour: The hiking trail runs through Prašivice and Nalžovské Hory, while the cycling route connects the town with Klatovy and Čejkovy.
Open-Air Summer Cinema
One cultural aspect of the town is the Nalžovské Hory Summer Cinema. Films are shown there under the open sky, accompanied by evening scenery and sunsets. The summer cinema also hosted shared summer evenings under the starry sky for more than ten years. This look back adds an evening experience to the historic sights and outdoor trails—one that is not limited to daytime sightseeing.
