Kvášňovice is a destination for you if, when travelling through the Czech Republic, you want to discover not only accommodation but also a clearly recognisable local history, protected trees and living traditions. The character of the village is shaped by St. Bartholomew’s Church, other memorial sites and notable lime trees. Kvášňovice also has a children’s playground and a table tennis table.

St. Bartholomew’s Church and the historical points of reference

The strongest cultural feature is St. Bartholomew’s Church. It was built between 1240 and 1260 in the late Romanesque style and remodelled in the Baroque style between 1751 and 1768. Both building phases contribute to the building’s distinctive character: the church preserves a late Romanesque history of origin while also bearing clear traces of a later Baroque transformation. On its southern side, it has a Romanesque entrance portal.

Concrete evidence of the village’s local and commemorative culture can also be found outside the church. In front of the local church stands a monument to the fallen soldiers, unveiled in 1922. North of St. Bartholomew’s Church stands a statue of St. John of Nepomuk dating from 1832. It was erected in gratitude for a plague sparing the village. The statue therefore refers not only to a specific year of origin but also to a traditional occasion connected with the village’s history.

The Neoclassical cemetery chapel of Kvášňovice, built in 1800, is another historical point of reference. Together with the church, the monument and the statue, it provides several distinct starting points for a cultural exploration of the village, without the individual buildings losing their own respective histories.

Protected lime trees and a path through the countryside

Alongside the architecture, Kvášňovice’s protected trees are also worth seeing. The Kvášňovická lime tree is a protected commemorative tree, first designated as such on 26 May 1978. The precise date of its designation makes it a clearly identifiable part of the village landscape, rather than merely a general natural attraction.

A protected large-leaved lime tree also grows along the field road from Kvášňovice to Defurovy Lažany. It reaches a height of 23 metres, has a trunk circumference of 383 centimetres and is estimated to be 270 years old.

Tradition and community life in the village

Local traditions and institutions also give Kvášňovice its own distinct character. The Kvášňovice Volunteer Fire Brigade was founded in 1896. The traditional Masopust festival in Kvášňovice includes a masked procession and complements the historic buildings with a form of local festive and customary culture. The focus is therefore not only on individual dates but on different ways of experiencing the village: architecture, remembrance, nature and community tradition.

What Kvášňovice offers for your travel planning

Kvášňovice is particularly interesting when choosing suitable accommodation if you are looking for a place with manageable, clearly defined themes: the church shaped by late Romanesque and Baroque influences, the cemetery chapel, memorial sites, protected lime trees and the traditional Masopust festival. Depending on whether architectural history, details of nature or local remembrance are most important to you, you can set different priorities when planning the rest of your trip.
