Podolí between Church Architecture and Cycling Routes

Podolí offers various starting points for a trip that brings together culture, activity and regional discoveries. The surrounding area is home to historic buildings and a hiking trail associated with Mount Bartoloměj. Horse-riding activities are the focus at Ranč Podolí, while several described cycling tours pass through Podolí or continue from there. This allows you to combine different types of excursions without overlooking the distinctive features of the individual destinations.

Church of Saint Bartholomew and the Trail to Bartoloměj

In the vicinity of Podolí, the Church of Saint Bartholomew was built in the Gothic style around 1370. Its history therefore dates back to the 14th century. At an elevation of 689 metres, it originally served as the parish church of the Podolí settlement. Its construction period, Gothic style and former parish function connect the building with the history of the Podolí settlement. For visitors interested in culture, it is therefore not only a historic building but is also connected with the former function of a specific settlement.

A hiking trail leads from the church in Běšiny via the former settlement of Machov to Mount Bartoloměj. The church in Běšiny is the starting point, while Machov is an intermediate point before the trail reaches Bartoloměj. In the vicinity of Podolí, the Bartoloměj hiking trail has five stations with information boards in Czech and German. The two language versions also make the stations accessible to German-speaking travellers who would like to engage with information about the route along the way.

Horse-Riding Activities at Ranč Podolí

Ranč Podolí has an indoor riding arena with a sand surface and show-jumping obstacles. The arena measures 20 × 40 metres and has six horse stalls. Seasonal riding camps, as well as riding instruction and riding courses, are also held there. The seasonal camps are a different format from the instruction and courses on offer. Alongside the historic destinations, this provides a separate focus for visitors who would like to shape their stay around equestrian activities and different course formats.

Experience Podolí by Bicycle

The cycling trip from Klatovy to Mlázovy passes through Podolí. One variant leads from Eurocamp Běšiny via Cycle Route 2036 to Podolí. The two cycling tours reach Podolí from different starting points.

Another cycling tour runs from Klatovy to Velhartice. After Podolí, it follows Cycle Route 2086 towards Tajanov. On the tour to Velhartice, the section towards Tajanov comes only after Podolí; in Podolí, there is an opportunity to stop and refresh yourself at a Western ranch. When comparing different cycling excursions, the information therefore differs both in the respective destination and in the route number that follows.

Podolí Château as a Baroque Contrast

Podolí Château is a small, single-storey Baroque building. When choosing your accommodation, consider which of these themes should shape your stay in Podolí.

To the overarching travel overview: Kolinec.
