Javor combines historical traces, marked routes and vibrant local traditions within a small area. The place is particularly interesting if you would like to discover culture during your stay while also exploring the surroundings by bicycle or on foot. You can also plan your journey in different ways: Javor is located at the end of a Class III road with no through traffic, but it can be reached via two public bus services several times a day.

Cultural History and Landmarks of Javor

A prominent cultural and historical point of reference is the fortified hilltop settlement site “Hradiště Javor”. It is an immovable cultural monument and gives the place a special historical dimension. The first written mention of Javor dates back to 1379. The documented history of the place therefore reaches considerably further back than many present-day travel occasions and offers a specific point of reference for anyone who would also like to learn about the development of a place during their stay.

Another visible feature is the wooden bell tower of Javor. It is one of the sights along the “Okolo Strážova” cycling tour. This makes it an interesting destination within a bike ride, without requiring you to experience the place exclusively through its historical sites.

Cycling and Hiking Along Different Routes

Two local cycling routes lead to or through Javor. Route No. 2038 runs between Strážov and Běsiny via Javor. Route No. 2110 leads from Javor via Loučany to Horní Lhota.

There is also clear orientation for those travelling on foot. Two marked hiking trails run through the municipality of Javor. If you are travelling with children or in a group and not everyone wants to choose the same activity, this allows you to combine your stay with cycling and hiking days.

Location and Getting There

Javor is located at the end of a Class III road. There is no through traffic there. This specific aspect of its location distinguishes the place from a destination situated on a through route and is relevant information when choosing where to stay. Public transport connections are available from Klatovy via Týnec to Javor and from Janovice nad Úhlavou via Týnec to Javor. Both services operate several times a day.

Local Festivals and Recurring Events

The local annual calendar includes the traditional small-sided football tournament “Javorkop Járy Vilda”, which takes place every year as part of the feast in Javor. In addition, the SDH Javor firefighters’ ball took place in 2024; the third edition was announced for 2026. The “Javorská proudnice” firefighting sports event was also held in 2024 and announced for 2025 and 2026. The status of each event is important in these details: the announced editions should not be equated with events that have already taken place.

Landscape in the Surrounding Area

Rovenská hora is located in the vicinity of Javor. The partly wooded, flat summit offers views from a meadow. Depending on the focus of your trip, you can therefore consider Javor a destination for culture, local events, cycling, hiking and landscape experiences.
