Château, Church and Local History

Výšovice is a place whose character can be understood particularly through the history of its château, ecclesiastical heritage and a local tasting event. In the centre of the village, Výšovice Château is a significant urban feature. The château and church each add a different historical accent, while the tasting event provides a social occasion.

Výšovice Château is an immovable cultural monument and is listed under registration number 5866 in the Central Register of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic. It acquired its present appearance through a reconstruction in 1796. The restoration begun in 1999 also included the renovation of frescoes. The dates therefore mark a historical reconstruction and a much later phase of conservation work.

The history of the village also includes the Výšovice parish: it has been documented since 1345, ceased to exist around 1630 and was re-established in 1760. It therefore combines early records, a lengthy interruption and its later restoration. Výšovice is also home to a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. The complex of the Church of St Lawrence was added to the list of Czech cultural monuments in May 1958.

Cycle Route and Local Tradition

For your travel planning, marked Cycle Route No. 5013 provides a clear point of reference. It starts in Prostějov and runs through Určice, Výšovice and Skalka. The sequence of these places describes the spatial line of the route and helps you assess the cycling focus of your stay.

Véšovské košt is a distinctive local feature. It is a tasting of slivovitz, fruit brandies and homemade liqueurs held in the château's function rooms at Výšovice Château. Visitors can sample all the competition spirits and homemade liqueurs. High-quality refreshments are provided for visitors, including tripe soup, boiled pork knuckle, smoked ribs, homemade sausage, beer and non-alcoholic drinks. The event therefore also includes food, beer and non-alcoholic drinks.

The first Véšovské košt took place on 21 February 2009; it was subsequently decided that the event would be organised regularly. The date anchors the event in a traceable local development. The ceremonial evaluation of the tasting was also open to the general public. Alongside the history of the buildings and the church, this places a documented local event tradition at the centre of attention.
