Discover Velké Losiny: Paper Tradition, Castle and Thermal Water
Accommodation in Velké Losiny
Velké Losiny combines a paper-making tradition, castle history, thermal water and paths through the surrounding area. This gives you several options for your stay: you can discover traditional crafts and historic rooms, spend time in the thermal area or choose educational trails and a riverside route for exploring.
Crafts and Castle History
The Ruční papírna Velké Losiny is at the heart of the area’s cultural history. The complex was declared a national cultural monument in 2002; today, the paper mill is one of the oldest businesses of its kind still in operation in Europe. The tour includes the first guided circuit and the production of your own handmade sheet of paper. Making your own sheet of paper adds a tangible practical step to the historic tour. In this way, historical significance is combined with a vivid practical experience.
Velké Losiny Castle complements this focus with its rare preserved Renaissance interiors and an arcaded gallery. During the tour, you can see unique leather and textile wallpapers as well as 17th-century tapestries. The tour route also includes a reminder of the witch trials. The castle therefore brings together architecture, furnishings and another chapter of local history, combining different periods and themes in one tour.
Thermal Water and Sauna
For a different way to spend your time, there is TERMÁLY LOSINY. The complex has nine thermal pools with water temperatures of up to 36°C. The indoor and outdoor pools are supplied by the natural Žerotín thermal spring, which emerges from a depth of more than 1,000 m. The sauna world offers four types of sauna. This allows you to divide your time in the thermal area between the pools and sauna. Step-free access to the sauna area is possible via a lift from the swimming hall.
Educational Trails and Paths Through the Surrounding Area
The “Kolem stromů, které něco zažily” educational trail passes through part of Velké Losiny and presents the stories of twenty trees. It has 20 stops, is approximately 5 km long and is suitable for children, pushchairs and wheelchair users. The approximate length and number of stops give the walk a clear time frame and thematic structure. The “Naučná stezka Velkých Losin” educational trail begins at the Church of Saint John the Baptist and offers views of the ridge of the Jeseníky Mountains. This allows you to choose between a themed tree trail and a route with mountain views.
Another option is the Velké Losiny–Rapotín hiking route. It leads from Lázně Velké Losiny via Velké Losiny Castle towards Rapotín and runs mostly along the Desná River. The route connects the starting point in Lázně Velké Losiny with the castle and riverside landscape, giving it a different focus from the two educational trails. When looking for a hotel in Velké Losiny, you can therefore first decide whether culture, thermal water or trails should be the focus of your stay.
