City History with Panoramic Views

Mährisch-Schönberg combines historical discoveries, special views and a variety of experiences for different travel plans. From the town hall tower in Šumperk, you can enjoy a view of the city and the Hrubý Jeseník Mountains, including Praděd. The viewing platform is 29 metres above the surrounding ground; after taking the lift, there are still 71 steps to climb. This makes it easy to combine the visit with a city tour and a viewpoint. The 71 steps after the lift provide a concrete guide for planning your day when combining the observation tower with further city sightseeing.

Museums and Protected Architectural Heritage

Muzeum Šumperk uses more than half of the buildings in the Pavlínin dvůr park complex, located in the centre of Šumperk. Pavlínin dvůr was declared a cultural monument in 1971. Muzeum Šumperk also houses the permanent exhibition “Příroda a dějiny severozápadní Moravy”. The Kostel Zvěstování Panny Marie church offers another approach to regional history. It has an accessible crypt and originally belonged to a Dominican monastery. The order’s chronicle dates its foundation to 1293. Families can take part in interactive tours there entitled “Tajemství klášterní lékárny”.

Galerie Jiřího Jílka also focuses on a distinct cultural theme. Since 1993, a solo exhibition has been held there every month. In addition, the gallery houses a permanent exhibition of sculptures, paintings and drawings by Jiří Jílek. Alongside the older architectural and monastic history, visitors can therefore choose from regularly changing and permanently displayed works of art.

Tours, Audio Tours and Cycling Route

The Šumperk Information Centre offers guided, narrated city tours that present important stages of the city’s history and significant monuments. The “Po stopách Malé Vídně” tour leads to notable buildings from the period of Šumperk’s greatest flourishing in the late 19th century. The accompanying audio tour is available in Czech, Polish, German and English. The Expozice Čarodějnické procesy exhibition offers a particularly theatrical approach to history: an audio guide by guidePORT™ lets the voice of the inquisitor Jindřich František Boblig z Edelstadtu guide visitors through the exhibition. Those wishing to explore the city by bicycle can consider the Čarodějnická cyklotrasa; it passes through Šumperk and stops at Geschaderův dům.

Water Experiences and Event Culture

Aquacentrum Šumperk has a water cannon and a water curtain in its paddling pool. It also features a 97-metre-long water slide with a ride through a “black hole” and glowing, colourful rings. The Bratrušák summer swimming complex has a children’s playground with a slide, swings and a carousel. The local range of experiences is complemented by cultural events: Blues Alive has been held at Dům kultury Šumperk in Šumperk since it began in 1996.

For further orientation, you can also explore Jedlí, Písařov, Lukavice, Postřelmov, Janoušov, Oskava, Bludov and Rejchartice.
