Rájec: Culture and Nature in Alternation

Rájec can be explored from two different perspectives: Historic sacred buildings and a sandstone column shape its cultural side, while Litovelské Pomoraví, floodplain forests, and a local reservoir represent the natural surroundings. For your travel planning, this means a clear choice between cultural and historical details and landscape themes.

Historic Traces in the Village

The column Sloup Nejsvětější Trojice stands out in the village due to its size and history. The sandstone monument is approximately 5.25 metres high and was erected in 1892 by Josef and Anna Chrastil from Rájec at their own expense. The combination of the precise year, the named benefactors, and the material used makes the column a particularly tangible detail of the village’s history.

The sacred buildings provide further historical points of reference. The bell tower in Rájec contains two bells. The year 1833 is carved above the entrance to the chapel Kaple v Rájci; the first recorded mass was celebrated there on 6 June 1911. In the chapel Kaplička svatého Petra a Pavla, the image of Saints Peter and Paul has been preserved to this day. Thus, specific years, religious furnishings, and preserved religious artwork can be found side by side in several locations. With different travel interests, this makes it possible to divide your stay between the cultural sights in the village, nature observation, and regional excursion destinations.

Litovelské Pomoraví and the Reservoir

Part of the Litovelské Pomoraví Site of Community Importance lies in the cadastral area of Rájec u Zábřehu towards Leština. The part concerning Rájec includes floodplain forests and habitats for rare plants, insects, and animals. For your choice between culture and nature, this landscape area is therefore a distinct topic that extends beyond the historic buildings.

The Studánka and the campsite at “Junáckém” provide another aspect of the natural surroundings. Both are located in a small forest behind the local reservoir. Their precise location adds forest, water, and a clearly designated local landmark to the picture of Rájec. Nature appreciation therefore focuses on both the floodplain forests and rare habitats and the small forest by the reservoir.

Places in the Regional Surroundings

The wider surroundings also offer various geographical points of reference. Hrad Brníčko Castle is located near Rájec. Skalka Mountain is in the nearby area, while Cukrová Bouda and Obora mountains are located in the surroundings of Rájec. Lazek Mountain and the Nový Hrad Ruins belong to the wider regional surroundings. Those wishing to add regional destinations will find both a castle and ruins, as well as several mountains, in the surrounding area.

One special feature is noted regarding transport: The Olomouc–Zábřeh railway line runs through the cadastral area of Rájec, but there has never been a railway stop in the village.
