Protivanov combines protected landscapes with an unusually dense succession of small historical discoveries. Here, you can explore a parish church with a long construction history, a natural monument in the valley of the Protivanovský potok and several roadside and field monuments. This creates a varied mix of culture and landscape for planning your trip, without requiring the individual sights to be combined into a single itinerary.

Church and Historical Memorials

The parish church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary was built in 1772 in place of the church that burned down in 1771. A visit is possible by prior arrangement. The church also contains a stone baptismal font preserved as a historical memorial. If you would like to begin your stay in Protivanov with a cultural visit, the church offers a tangible insight into the history of the village. For your planning, prior arrangement for the visit is important.

Protected Nature and Paths on the Forest Edge

The Protivanov natural monument, which is also a Natura 2000 site, lies in the valley of the Protivanovský potok approximately 0.5 km northwest of Protivanov. Another way to explore the landscape around the village is the Protivanovský circuit. The route follows the forest edge to the Louky pod Skalkami natural monument and then returns to Protivanov. The circular trail thus connects a landscape destination with the starting point and place of return, Protivanov. For families wishing to combine different interests, nature observation and local history can therefore be treated as separate, clearly understandable themes when planning the trip.

Elevation and Small Monuments in the Landscape

U žlíbku is a sloping meadow in the Drahanská vrchovina highlands at an elevation of 630 m southwest of Protivanov. The Skály area forms the highest point of the Drahanská vrchovina and adds a distinctive geographical reference to the landscape. Historical details can also be found along the roads: on the road to Boskovice in Protivanov stands a cast-iron crucifix on a colorfully finished stone pedestal. The Baroque pedestal dates from 1798, while the cross probably originates from a later period; its creator is unknown. In a field along the road from Protivanov towards Niva, there is also a brick-built and plastered niche chapel from the 19th century.

A Historic Building Under Restoration

The Protivanovský mlýn is a historic building with a millrace and is undergoing restoration. Together with the church, the crucifix and the niche chapel, the mill makes it clear that local history is not reflected in just one building. If, when choosing accommodation, you value a combination of landscape and regional sights, Protivanov offers several different points of connection: a visit by arrangement, a circular trail along the forest edge and historical details along roads, in fields and beside a millrace.
