Within the municipality of Postřelmov, the Desná flows into the Morava. The Postřelmov Plain is characterized by fertile fields and meadows and surrounded by wooded hills. The Jeseníky Mountains lie in the background. Postřelmov is also located on the route between Zábřeh and Šumperk and has good road and rail connections. This location helps when choosing a place to stay if you would like to combine landscape, culture and regional mobility in your travel plans.
Cycling Route and Active Exploration
The “Na kole okolím Zábřeha I.” cycling tour leads from Rovensko via Postřelmov. Before Postřelmov, you can turn onto a paved field road that runs around Postřelmov to the Chapel of Saint Procopius. The route then continues via Hradecká Street to Cycling Route 6231 and Postřelmov railway station. The individual sections of the route thus provide concrete guidance for planning a cycling tour without requiring you to commit to just one way of exploring the area.
Renaissance, Baroque and Local History
A notable cultural site is the late Renaissance family tomb of the Bukůvky family from 1592, considered an exceptional monument of its kind in Moravia. The tomb has a portal with remarkable relief decoration and a masterfully forged Renaissance grille. Its crypt contains the mummified remains of Zikmund Bukůvka, his wife Barbora Okrouhlická, Zikmund’s nephew Bernard and an unknown girl.
The Church of Saint Matthew was originally a Gothic building from the 14th century and was rebuilt in the Baroque style after the devastating fire of 1665. The restored interior includes the main altar of Saint Matthew and a ceiling painting of the Last Supper. The Procházkova Chapel, the Chapel of Saint Procopius, was built in 1696 on the road from Postřelmov to Chromeč and was originally dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It is considered one of the oldest early Baroque chapels in Moravia. During the reconstruction of the parish Church of Saint Matthew in 1853, services were held there.
Further Evidence and Cultural Themes
Jursův statek is a listed agricultural estate dating from 1837. The educator and schoolbook publisher Jan Jursa lived there; he lived from 1853 to 1938. Local culture also includes the Markovice folklore ensemble, founded in 1953, which works with folklore material from the northernmost area of Hanna and is dedicated to preserving traditional folk culture. Other distinctive details include the Baroque sandstone sculpture of Saint John of Nepomuk from 1732 and Kaple Nanebevzetí Panny Marie, a brick building with a square floor plan and a semicircular apse.
