Oskava Among Forests, Hills and History

Oskava combines protected landscapes, notable changes in elevation and a rich local history. A large part of the municipality of Oskava lies within the Jeseníky Protected Landscape Area. At the same time, much of the municipality is covered by forests and hills with significant differences in elevation. The Oskava River flows through the municipality. As a result, the surrounding area brings together natural landscapes, a watercourse and changing terrain. If you would like to combine nature experiences with culture, Oskava offers various ways to do so. The landscape provides a setting for days in which physical activity and historical discoveries can be given different emphasis.

Hiking and Winter Routes to Rabštejn Castle

Marked hiking trails lead from the Bedřichov district of Oskava to Rabštejn Castle. The castle was founded at the end of the 13th century and first mentioned in writing in 1318. There are climbing rocks with routes of varying difficulty at the castle. In winter, cross-country skiing from Rabštejn towards Skřítek is possible. The site therefore combines a historic destination with marked trails, climbing rocks and a seasonal winter sports experience. When planning a day at Rabštejn, hiking, climbing and cross-country skiing can therefore be considered as different focal points, rather than reducing the area to a single type of excursion.

Churches, Chapels and the Local Past

Oskava's local history apparently includes gold panning and ironworking already carried out in the 13th century; they may possibly date back to Celtic or Great Moravian times. The parish church of St. Florian in Oskava was consecrated in 1785. Oskava's Bedřichov district has a Neo-Gothic Church of St. Frederick, built in 1869 and consecrated in 1872. In Třemešek, the Chapel of St. Anthony of Padua was built in 1887 and, after restoration, reopened and reconsecrated on June 18, 2016. The Chapel of St. Anthony of Padua in Mostkov was consecrated in 1908; in 2018, its tower, roof and façade were completely restored. The history of the area thus includes both early economic activity and religious buildings from several centuries. The churches and chapels distribute historical points of interest across Oskava and its districts, complementing a visit to the landscape and castle with a cultural dimension.

Cycling, Fishing and Getting There

Cycle Route 6032 runs through Oskava and complements the hiking trails with another way to explore the surrounding area actively. Fishing is possible at the local reservoir in Mostkov during the seasonal period. Fishing is also possible during the seasonal period at the private POD TRIANGLEM pond in Oskava. Two IDSOK bus lines connect Šumperk with Oskava: Line 204 runs via Hrabišín and Libina, while Line 205 runs via Nový Malín. The two lines therefore provide different documented connections from the direction of Šumperk, while the cycle route and seasonal fishing opportunities offer additional elements for personal day-trip and travel planning.
