Němčice Nad Hanou combines a multifaceted history with vibrant regional traditions and experiences that can be readily explored. Between the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, archaeological traces, theatre and the Masarykova lípa educational trail, a destination emerges that appeals both to culture enthusiasts and to visitors who want to combine history and nature on a walk.

Church of St. Mary Magdalene and Freestanding Bell Tower

One of the important monuments of Němčice Nad Hanou is the parish Church of St. Mary Magdalene. The original stone building dates from the end of the 15th century and was severely damaged in 1663 during an incursion by the Tatars. The complex includes a freestanding bell tower that is 37 metres high and protected as a monument. The freestanding bell tower in Němčice Nad Hanou is one of five freestanding bell towers in Moravia. The local history therefore offers several tangible starting points for a cultural and historical exploration.

Haná Traditions, Ethnography and Theatre

The Hanácký němčický kroj is regarded as a local symbol of Němčice Nad Hanou and is richly decorated with embroidery and lace. The Pantlék ethnographic ensemble has existed since 1991 and continues to preserve and present ethnographic traditions. As early as 1887, the first ethnographic exhibition in the Bohemian lands was held in Němčice Nad Hanou.

Theatre is also a lasting part of the character of the town: theatre showcases have been held annually since 1983, and since 1994 the annual showcase of amateur theatre ensembles has been called Hanácký divadelní máj. The event is a regional showcase of rural theatre ensembles as well as a regional showcase of spoken theatre for children. Selected ensembles may be referred on to KDP Vysoké n. J. or CP Popelka Rakovník. Němčice Nad Hanou already hosted its first showcase of theatre ensembles in 1971.

Archaeological Traces

The Němčice Nad Hanou archaeological site has yielded Celtic coins and further coins from the ancient world. Numerous coin fragments, blanks and precious-metal pieces attest to the manufacturing character of the La Tène-period settlement at Němčice Nad Hanou. The finds add to the picture of a place whose history extends far beyond its visible architectural monuments.

Masarykova lípa Educational Trail and Cycling

The Masarykova lípa educational trail is a 1.5-kilometre walking route. Six information boards stand along the route, with two further boards located in the grove near the Masaryk linden tree. The educational trail presents the history, nature and surroundings of Němčice Nad Hanou. The boards also cover T. G. Masaryk, plants, animals and geography; interactive boards focus on animal and plant life. The route is used by local residents, tourists and cyclists. Cultural events organised by the town were also held in the renewed Masarykova lípa grove. Na bicyklech Němčickem is a traditional cycle tour.
