Discover Mořice: Nature, History and Special Experiences
Accommodation in Mořice
Mořice offers a wide range of themes for planning your trip: nature observation, local history, special monuments and a summer festival. Mořice Castle has been protected as a historic monument since 1958. In addition, traces of the past lead to a reconciliation cross from 1430, while the Zahrada pěti smyslů, with its stations for all five senses, provides a family-oriented educational and recreational area.
Experience nature: Mokroš Biocentre and Educational Trail
The Mokroš Biocentre represents a floodplain habitat with meadows, woodland and wetlands. It therefore focuses on a landscape type that brings together various natural elements without being limited to a single setting. The biocentre is publicly accessible as an educational area and contains native flora as well as flora introduced as part of targeted expansions.
Mokroš also includes an educational trail with five information boards. The boards provide a clear orientation around the nature theme and make the site interesting for visitors who want not only to look at the landscape but also to engage with its characteristics. Mokroš offers a suitable setting for walks and nature observation. This allows you to explore the natural aspect of your trip independently of the historical themes.
Historical Traces and Monuments
The Church of St. Martin complex comprises the church, a mortuary, the old section of the cemetery, an enclosing wall, a gate and a small wicket gate. Its distinctive feature lies in the combination of several structural elements into a complete complex rather than presenting just a single building.
The reconciliation cross “Smírčí kříž pokutný” is the oldest monument in Mořice and dates from 1430. It is carved from coarse-grained sandstone. An engraved bladed weapon is visible on the reverse—a detail that gives the monument an immediately recognisable historical trace.
The wayside shrine “Boží muka” in Mořice was erected in 2008. It commemorates a local tragedy: according to an entry in the local chronicle, 18-year-old František Čičinský hanged himself here about 180 years ago, presumably because of unrequited love.
The Senses, Children and Summer Culture
The Zahrada pěti smyslů serves children from Mořice and the neighbouring villages. It includes educational beds with traditional rural plants as well as medicinal herbs and shrubs. As an educational and recreational area, it has stations for all five senses. This gives families a specific excursion destination where knowledge of nature, sensory perception and recreation come together.
The Revival Festival Mořice is a summer open-air festival for tribute bands and has been a tradition there since 2001. Those who want to combine their trip with an event will find a clear cultural highlight alongside the nature and history themes.
