Mírov combines a distinctive castle history with memorial sites, a forest educational trail and views of the castle. If you would like to combine culture and walks, the town offers several different points of interest for planning your trip. The castle remains a visible landmark, even though the castle complex itself cannot be entered.

History of Mírov Castle

The first written mention of Mírov Castle dates back to 1266. The Mírov castle complex currently serves as Mírov Prison, with enhanced security measures, and is not open to the public. Therefore, do not plan to visit the castle interiors as a public attraction. Those interested in the history of the place can connect the year 1266 with the memorial sites and views of the complex. Its historical significance is encountered in the town primarily through the memorial sites and the various viewpoints overlooking the castle.

Memorial Sites and Cultural Monuments

Mírov has a memorial to the victims of National Socialism at a former prison cemetery. The memorial was created in 1967. A memorial to political prisoners stands in the park opposite the entrance to Mírov Castle. The two locations emphasize different aspects of the townscape: the former prison cemetery is one place of remembrance, while the park opposite the entrance is the other. Another sight is the column with a statue of Our Lady of Sorrows. It was declared an immovable cultural monument in 2007. Together, these places make Mírov's history visible even outside the inaccessible castle complex.

Forest Educational Trail and Viewpoints

Along the educational trail in the forest around Mírov Castle, information panels describe the municipality, the castle, local legends and the local flora. In this way, the trail combines historical subjects with observation of nature. The educational trail is suitable for walks for all age groups and thus provides a concrete way to engage with the themes of the place without having to enter the castle complex. The viewpoint overlooking the castle is a wooden pavilion on a meadow below the forest and offers a view of the castle. North of Mírov Castle, above the town, there is a viewpoint with a pavilion. The two pavilions complement the educational trail with different perspectives of the castle and situate the walk between the forest, meadow and town.

Getting to Mírov and Other Options

Mírov can be reached by car and bus. A newly built cycle path leads there by bicycle, while on foot you can reach the town along the Mírovka River. Thus, the direct transport routes differ from an arrival that already becomes part of your stay as a cycling or walking route. These different ways of arriving help you plan your stay to suit your preferred mode of transport. Mírov also has a swimming pool with a concrete basin supplied with water from a stream. The swimming pool offers a different focus from the castle, memorial sites and forest, expanding the local options with a water-related activity.
