Leština combines a riverside location, protected nature and a local history documented over many centuries. Leština lies on the left bank of the Morava. The town has been documented in historical sources since 1392; the earlier settlement of Zálavčí already appears in a record from 1371. Transport links are also part of its history: Leština lay on an important route across the Morava, and tolls were already collected on the bridge built there in the 16th century.

Protected Areas and Nature Observation

About half of the Pod Trlinou Nature Reserve lies within the cadastral area of Leština. The area protects near-natural forest communities as well as a preserved section of the cultural landscape with meadows, pastures and field margins. Among the special natural sites are the Leštinské tůně pools, designated as a temporarily protected area since 2000. In 2003, three previously vanished ponds were restored there to provide breeding grounds for amphibians and newts.

Another opportunity for observation is provided by the ornithological ringing station in Leština. Visitors can observe ornithologists at work catching birds while receiving expert explanations. For the European Bird Festival, the station holds an annual open day for children and adults. In addition to landscapes and trails, this offers nature observation with an educational focus.

Hiking and Cycling Around Leština

There are several clearly distinct routes for active days. The 2.3 km shared cycle and pedestrian path from Zábřeh to Leština connects the two places and is suitable for cyclists, inline skaters and pedestrians. The “Leštinská třicítka” offers hiking routes of 13 km, 20 km and 35 km, as well as a 40 km cycling route. The “Pochod kolem Leštiny” started from Čapí hnízdo on 28 August 2026 at 4:00 p.m. and followed a 5 km route. The event is designed as an entertaining walk in nature with family-oriented entertainment. The different distances help you choose the focus of a day during your stay according to your preferred route length.

Chapel and Traditional Events

The Chapel of St. Wenceslas in Leština was built in 1754. Masses are held there regularly, along with occasional classical music concerts. The traditional Leštinské hody festivities include fairground rides and market stalls. The program of the traditional “Velikonoční Leština” event at the Sokolovna includes the “Vo Leštěnské mazanec” competition, an Easter market, a creative workshop for children and a singing performance.

When choosing accommodation in Leština, you can use your preferred daily rhythm as a starting point: nature observation, walks and cycling routes offer different priorities from the chapel and local events. This allows you to tailor your search to the experiences you would like to combine during your stay.
