Lešany between Village Culture and Landscape

In character, Lešany combines the Hanakian villages of the area below Velký Kosíř with the settlements of the Drahanská vrchovina. The village lies among orchards and gently sloping fields above the Romže River. As a result, an agriculturally shaped landscape, village architectural history and diverse natural features meet here – an interesting foundation if, during your stay, you want to get to know not only a place to stay but also the character of the surrounding area. The interplay of open spaces, historic sites and distinctive natural areas gives the village several clearly recognisable facets.

Churches, Chapel and Bell Tower

A prominent historic site is the Chapel of Saint Francis Xavier. It was built in 1722 and has been protected as a cultural monument since 29 December 1994. The chapel thus offers a concrete insight into the older history of Lešany, while the Church of the Holy Trinity represents a later chapter in the village’s development. It was completed in 1884 and built in the Historicist style with Neo-Gothic elements. An avenue leads to this church from the road. Comparing the two religious buildings makes it clear that the history of the village spans several eras and preserves different architectural accents.

The centrally located bell tower in Lešany is also part of the village’s landmarks. It was built in 1831; on 24 April 1834, the clock by Spurný was installed on the bell tower. The war memorial also adds to the historic character of the village. It was erected in 1921 and, after 1945, supplemented with a plaque bearing the names of those who fell and were murdered in the Second World War. The park by the church is also one of the sights in Lešany. The bell tower, church, park and memorial combine architectural history, remembrance culture and a public village space, without reducing Lešany to a single building.

Cycle Route and Distinctive Natural Areas

For active days of your holiday, Cycle Route 5039 can be included in your plans. The 24-kilometre route leads from Lešany via Zdětín to Ptení and then continues in the direction of Horní Štěpánov. The stated length helps you assess the scope of a possible cycling tour without committing you to a specific way of structuring your day. At the same time, the route connects Lešany with several other places, offering a different perspective on the surrounding area from exploring the sights in the village.

The landscape around Lešany also has various facets. The only woodland near Lešany lies in the valley of the Lešanský Stream west of the village. In the Na hůrkách area, there are acidic, thermophilous grasslands forming a mosaic with scattered trees and small woodland patches. Protected and endangered plant and animal species occur there. Those wishing to combine nature observation and cultural-historical discoveries in their plans will therefore find several clearly distinguishable themes in Lešany. Open fields, the stream valley, woodland and the distinctive grasslands represent different landscape impressions that can be considered separately when planning a trip or combined with cultural destinations.
