Laškov – Discover Cultural History and Landscapes
Accommodation in Laškov
Laškov Between History and Landscapes
Laškov is an appealing destination if you would like to combine cultural history with distinctive landscape features during your trip. In the village itself, the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and Laškov Château tell stories of different eras. The surrounding area also includes Rmíz Hill, religious cultural sites near Krakovec, and a fortified path through the Rakovské Valley.
Church, Château, and Historical Traces
The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Laškov was built in 1612 and is protected as a cultural monument. It is therefore one of the village’s clearly identifiable historical points of reference.
Laškov Château developed from a Gothic fortress. Part of its ground plan has been preserved in the centre. Another historical connection reaches back to 1887: Emperor Franz Joseph I chose the château as his temporary residence on the occasion of the imperial manoeuvres in the Konice area.
Krakovec also offers a distinctive cultural feature. The present-day Baroque Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua was built between 1682 and 1686 on Světina Hill. Fatima devotions have been held in the chapel for more than 15 years. These include a candlelight procession with the statue of Our Lady of Fatima and the rosary prayer.
Outside Krakovec, on the road to Laškov near the Chapel of the Virgin Mary, stands a stone cross dedicated to Saints Cyril and Methodius. Such individual monuments also make exploring the surrounding area appealing to travellers who appreciate smaller historical sites alongside châteaux and churches.
Hills, Paths, and Excursions
Rmíz Hill above Laškov is a prehistoric hillfort site and, at the same time, an important archaeological site. It adds a much older chapter to the local history and gives the landscape a distinctive historical dimension.
For active days, the surfaced path of the excursion through the Rakovské Valley is a good option. In addition to hiking, it is also suitable for a bike ride, allowing you to choose between two means of transport.
Visitors to the Laškov bathing biotope can use a designated car park within the agricultural cooperative’s grounds. This makes it possible to combine a historical orientation with another specific destination in the village.
It is assumed that a branch of the so-called “Polish Road” ran from the second half of the 10th century until the beginning of the 13th century from Prague via Litomyšl, Jevíčko, Konice, Krakovec, and Náměšť na Hané to Olomouc, and then northwards through the Moravian Gate towards Poland. This presumed historical route also makes Laškov interesting in the broader context of the region’s past.
Choose Laškov as Your Place to Stay
If you are looking for accommodation in Laškov, you can base your choice on whether the village’s history, religious cultural sites, archaeological traces, or paths for hiking and cycling are most important to you. This keeps your travel planning focused on your desired experiences without presenting the individual destinations as a single unified offering.
