Kralice na Hané between the Haná Plain and the Valová

Kralice na Hané lies 5 km east of Prostějov in the fertile Haná Plain. The town is situated on a low terrace at the northeastern edge of the broad Valová floodplain, below its confluence with the Romže. This specific landscape setting provides a clear framework for choosing the destination: you can discover Kralice na Hané as a destination in the open Haná region while also taking its proximity to Prostějov into account when planning your trip.

History, Castle and Protected Church

The history of the town goes back a long way: Kralice na Hané was first mentioned in written records in 1225. In 1316, John of Luxembourg granted Kralice na Hané its own laws. At that time, the town already held the mile right. Kralice na Hané Castle stands on the site of a former fortress; the present building is dated to 1637. The Seilern family subsequently used the castle as a summer residence for 100 years.

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was built between 1790 and 1793. It is protected as an immovable cultural monument and is listed in the Central Register of Immovable Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic. A Renaissance church tower from 1578 survived later alterations and forms the basis of the present tower.

Chapels and Haná Culture

Smaller religious buildings also form part of the townscape. In the settlement of Kraličky, the Chapel of St John of Nepomuk stands in the middle of the village street. In Kralice na Hané stands the Chapel of St Vitus; in front of it is a monumental 19th-century cross. The hexagonal Chapel of the Holy Cross in the cemetery dates from 1823.

The Haná singing and dancing ensemble KLAS presents Haná traditions and customs through dance and song. The ensemble regularly performs at cultural events, including the Kralické klebety and the Advent gathering. The church choir performs in the local church at Easter, during the Hodové celebrations and at Christmas. Many residents from the municipality and the surrounding area take part in the Hodové celebrations. On 8 May 2026, the 13th pilgrimage on foot from Kralice na Hané to Dub nad Moravou took place.
