Kolšov: Hiking, Cycling and History
Accommodation in Kolšov
Kolšov combines a wooded valley setting with hiking trails, marked cycling routes and a surprisingly diverse range of historical points of interest. If you would like to combine nature experiences and culture in manageable day plans during your trip, the village offers several specific starting points: trails lead towards the ruins of Brníčko Castle, Cikánský buk and the Bradlo viewpoint, while the village itself offers a chapel, a historic estate and living traditions to discover.
Landscape and Trails around Kolšov
Kolšov lies on the western side of an outlying branch of the Úsovská vrchovina. The village is located in a basin between the Dlouhá, Markovice, Brabenečná and Horka hills. To the north and west, this basin opens onto the plain in the Morava Valley. At the same time, Kolšov lies in a valley and is surrounded by forests on three sides. As a result, open landscapes and wooded mountain slopes meet within a small area.
Several destinations provide orientation for hikes. Kolšov is used as a starting point for the route to Markovice via the saddle near the neighbouring Dlouhá hill. This route offers, among other things, views of Sudkovský rybník and Bludov. At the summit of Markovice there is a fire pit, benches, a summit logbook and a signpost. In addition, the green-marked hiking trail from Sudkov to Brníčko passes through Kolšov. The ruins of Brníčko Castle are among the nearest significant cultural and historical monuments to Kolšov and lie approximately 3 km away.
The surroundings along the Morava also add another point of reference for a stay: the Morava, navigable from Postřelmov onwards, is approximately 2 km from Kolšov. This distance is approximate and describes the proximity of another landscape area without specifying a particular route or walking time.
Cycling and Regional Events
A marked cycling route passes through Kolšov. It runs south towards Mohelnice and Litovel and north towards Hanušovice and Jeseník. For a shorter tour, there is the “Cyklo-výlet za poznáním historie”, which is 19 km long and passes through Kolšov. When planning your day, you can therefore distinguish between a longer connection in two directions and a compact excursion with a historical focus.
SK Kolšov organises cycling races as part of the “Šumperský pohár horských kol” series. Registration for the “Velká cena Kolšova Tomanon XC MTB”, announced for 20 June 2026, was possible for participants ranging from the youngest children’s categories to adults; tricycles and balance bikes were also permitted for the youngest participants. The event was announced as the 12th edition. In addition, the “Běh Markovicou” race is part of the “Chlapácký běh” cross-country running series.
Historical Traces and Living Traditions
The “Usedlost č. p. 2” estate stands in the village. It is dated to 1845 and is considered an example of popular Empire architecture from the first half of the 19th century. The Chapel of Saint Martin in Kolšov was built in 1820. Its significance also extends into local events: Martinské hody is still celebrated in Kolšov today.
A specific example of engagement with this building was the open day on 11 November 2022. In the chapel dedicated to Saint Martin, visitors could learn about its history, listen to recorded church music, enjoy light refreshments and taste fresh Saint Martin’s wine. When looking for a hotel in Kolšov, you can therefore decide whether hiking and cycling routes or the history and traditions of the village are your main focus.
