Ivaň – Historical Traces in the Haná Landscape
Accommodation in Ivaň
Ivaň combines a flat landscape with a remarkably rich history reflected in the appearance of the village. The municipality lies in the flat terrain of the Hornomoravský úval at an average elevation of 172 metres and in an intensively cultivated, flat Haná landscape. At the same time, chapels, crosses, statues, and traces of a long settlement history can be found in the village and the surrounding cadastral area. If you are looking for a place to stay with specific historical details rather than interchangeable scenery, Ivaň offers several clearly distinguishable points of interest.
Cultural Monuments in the Village Centre and on the Outskirts
In the centre of Ivaň stands the chapel “Kaple sv. Floriána”, built in 1898. Directly in front of the chapel is a stone cross dating from 1883. In the eastern part of the municipality, opposite the bus stop, stands a statue of the Virgin Mary from 1889. These three monuments are located in different parts of the village and make its local history visible through specific architectural and artistic works.
On the north-eastern outskirts of Ivaň, on the access road from Tovačov, stands the statue “Socha sv. Jana z Nepomuku”. It was restored in 1946. North-west of Ivaň, below the water tower, there is also the wayside shrine “Boží muka”, which is designated as a protected cultural monument. Another stone cross from 1863 stands in the northern part of the cadastral area on the field path “Pod hrubčickou silnicí”. On the eastern edge of the cadastral area, a Pietà group known as “Sousoší Piety” stands beside a field path in a small wooded area.
Historical Settlement and Archaeological Traces
The original historical settlement structure in the inner part of Ivaň is considered valuable and shapes the municipality’s fundamental appearance. Those who wish to view the village not only through individual monuments but also as a developed settlement will therefore find an additional cultural focus here. The first written mention of Ivaň dates from 1359, reaching significantly further back than the chapel and crosses that are visible in the village today.
The archaeological finds from the present-day area of Ivaň also add to this picture. They include urns of various shapes, bowls, spindle whorls, a bronze bracelet, and a bronze fibula. Spindle whorls are small devices used in spinning; together with the other finds, they point to different facets of early settlement and craft activity. For visitors interested in history, this provides an approach that does not end with the visible monuments but also encompasses the older past of the municipality’s present-day territory.
Landscape and an Offer for Children
The flat Haná landscape forms the scenic setting of Ivaň. Its intensive agricultural use is just as much a part of the character of the surroundings as the low average elevation of 172 metres in the Hornomoravský úval. The orange sports field is used for public recreation and sporting activities, particularly for children and young people. Thus, alongside the historical points of reference, there is also an area explicitly focused on exercise and leisure, which can be taken into account when planning days out together with children.
