Hvozd between Nature, Trails and Village History

Hvozd combines protected nature, marked trails and local history. Part of the Hvozd municipal area lies within Kladecko Nature Park, which also includes Taramka Nature Monument. Taramka Nature Monument contains fragments of Hercynian oak-hornbeam forests, species-rich beech forests, calcareous beech forests and a mesic tall-oat meadow with protected and endangered plant species.

Forests, Valley and Expansive Views

The Špraněk flows through Hvozd's cadastral area in a deeply incised valley; karst formations can be found in its surroundings. From Stráž Hill south of Hvozd, the most distant visible places are up to 63 kilometres away. The source of the Pilávka stream is also located near Hvozd, in a forest between Hvozd and Bohuslavice. A footpath from the road from Bohuslavice to Hvozd leads to the source after about 300 metres.

Hiking and Cycling with Clear Routes

Several marked routes help you find your way when planning. The blue-marked hiking trail leads from Malé Hradisko via Stražisko and Budětsko through Hvozd to Vojtěchov. The yellow-marked hiking trail leads from Vojtěchov to Javoříčko through Hvozd's planning area. Cycle Route No. 5277 between Milkov and Bohuslavice also runs through this planning area. The Špraněk Educational Trail partly runs through Hvozd's planning area. Near Hvozd, the five-kilometre Špraněk Educational Trail forms a circular route through Špraněk National Nature Reserve; it starts and ends at the Javoříčko Caves.

Small Monuments and Traces of the Past

The Chapel of Saint Wenceslas in Hvozd's village square is classified as a monument of local importance. It has a slender bell tower, resembles a small church and bears the year 1906 above the entrance. A stone cross stands in front of the chapel. Hvozd's cadastral area also contains registered immovable cultural monument No. 22357/7-5554: the wayside shrine near House No. 94. It is block-shaped, has a glazed front niche and is an example of small-scale folk architecture from the 18th century. The wayside shrine on the road to Luká is likewise protected as an immovable cultural monument and is a folk structure from the 18th century. The Hvozdecká cesta is mentioned in 1279 as a connection between the area of Mohelnice and Litovel and Konice.
