Discover Hrubčice
Accommodation in Hrubčice
Hrubčice is located in the fertile Haná region and combines several historical points of interest within a small area with a signposted cycling path. This creates a destination whose character is shaped above all by religious buildings, memorial sites, and the history of individual buildings. Anyone looking for accommodation can include cultural discoveries and a cycling tour in their plans.
Historical landmarks in Hrubčice
A distinctive feature is the stone cross in Hrubčice. It is approximately four metres high and dates from 1898. Its niches contain statues of Our Lady of Sorrows, Saint Joseph, and Saint Aloysius Gonzaga. Another point of reference in time is the tall, four-sided bell tower in the centre of the village. It was built in 1769 and renovated in 1997. The first mention of the church in Hrubčice dates from 1605.
The castle and church as cultural landmarks
The “Hrubecký zámek” castle was built in the 16th century as a late Renaissance structure. Around 1700, it was remodelled with Baroque elements. A balustrade staircase dating from this period leads from the park to the upper floor.
The “Filiální kostel sv. Urbana” church was built in 1755 and 1756 in the Baroque style and dedicated to Saint Urban. It stands outside the village, surrounded by a cemetery. Inside are a main altar and three side altars. These are dedicated to Saint Barbara, Our Lady of Lourdes, and Saint Elizabeth, Saint Zechariah, and John the Baptist. In front of the church stands a stone cross from 1857.
The chapel and historical memorial sites
The “Kaple sv.Cyrila a Metoděje” chapel was built in 1887 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the settlement and completed a year later. It was consecrated on 27 July 1888. The stone statues of Saint Florian and Saint John of Nepomuk also date from a precisely documented period in the past: they were created in 1736. Originally, they stood on the village square on either side of the road; this place was formerly known as “U svatých”. The historical name of the place and the statues’ former arrangement are part of their history, without saying anything about their current location.
